Danny Reagan is officially returning to our TV screens in a new Blue Bloods offshoot! Donnie Wahlberg is set to reprise his role as the detective in the series expansion, which is listed under the working title Boston Blue.

The Blue Bloods series finale aired in December 2024, and fans have been itching to see the Reagans back in action ever since. So far, the network has released some tidbits about what to expect from the new series and when fans should expect to see it hit the TV lineup.

As the title Boston Blue suggests, the show is set in Boston, unlike New York-based Blue Bloods. Donnie is a Boston native, so it will be interesting to see him go back to his roots in the new program.

Danny Reagan Has Taken a New Job

After years as an NYPD Detective working with his family, Danny has taken a new job in Boston Blue.

“In BOSTON BLUE, a universe expansion of the long-running top drama BLUE BLOODS, Wahlberg will reprise his role as NYPD officer Danny Reagan as he takes a position with Boston PD,” the press release revealed.

There’s a New Lady in Danny’s Life

While fans were used to seeing Danny work alongside partner Maria Baez, he will be paired with a new face in Boston Blue.

“Once in Boston, he is paired with detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family,” the press release revealed.

Tom Selleck Is Interested in Making a Cameo

After the news of Boston Blue was announced, sources told Closer that Tom Selleck was open to reprising his role of Frank Reagan on Donnie’s new show.

“As soon as Donnie got news that he was getting a spinoff he called Tom, he was one of the first people he wanted to talk to,” an insider told Closer in March 2025. “He let him know there will be a place for him to do walk-ons and cameos if he so chooses, it’s really a case where the ball is in Tom’s court because Donnie is a loyal and true blue guy, having Tom come on is a given.”
