Alex Trebek Is Recovering From Brain Surgery, Putting ‘Jeopardy’ Filming on Hiatus

Poor Alex Trebek is healing after having surgery in December, but don't worry, you won't miss a thing on Jeopardy!. The host suffered a fall in October and hit his head. Two months later on Dec. 15, he was admitted to Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles and was diagnosed with a subdural hematoma, which means the blood vessels in his head burst and put pressure on the brain when it pooled in his skull. It sounds pretty serious, but he's expected to be a-ok.

The hematoma was removed on Dec. 16, and it was a total success. Alex has been recovering ever since, but in the meantime, his show's production was put on hold, according to Deadline. However, the show films months in advance, so fans likely won't notice his absence at all. The only thing that will be affected on-air is the College Championship. It was originally slated to be filming right now will be pushed to film in March and air in April. They will likely pick up filming for the regular show in mid-January.

Alex is pretty healthy for a 77-year-old man, but this isn't his first scare. In 2007, he suffered a mild heart attack at his home, but he recovered within weeks and immediately began working. Then in 2012, he had a second heart attack and once again spent less than a month away from the job. In between, he injured his ankle by pulling his Achilles tendon while chasing a burglar in San Francisco. Hopefully, Alex takes his recovery seriously and doesn't get back to work too soon. Get better, Alex!
