Billy posed with his Mike & Molly costar Melissa McCarthy at the CBS Upfront in NYC. The comedian once opened up about the criticism he faced online over his appearance.

“Of course, there’s always people online that when I was heavy, they’re like, ‘You’re too heavy,'” he told Entertainment Tonight in September 2022.

2012

The pair once again joined forces at the Academy Of Television Arts & Sciences’ 21st Annual Hall of Fame Gala. Billy decided to shed weight after facing a number of health issues.

“At first I developed Type 2 diabetes, and then I went on a medication for that for about a year and start taking care of myself better,” he recalled. “I lost about 30 pounds. But then COVID hit. and when they punched up all the markings that made you ‘at risk,’ I had all of them except ‘over 65.’ I had a full bingo card.”

2014

Billy supported Melissa at the premiere of her film Tammy with his wife, Patty Gardell. He shared that he weighed more than 370 pounds a decade ago.

2019

He was all smiles at an Oscars viewing party. Making changes in his life has led the Funny You Should Ask actor to feel a lot better.

“You have a small window to change the way you live, the way you eat, the way you exercise, and so far I’ve been able to do that,” he explained. “I do it a day at a time and I’m just so, so very grateful that that happened for me. No more diabetes, no more bad blood numbers.”

The TV star was unrecognizable at Byron Allen’s 5th Annual Oscar Gala. He’s got a new lease on life since joining the cast of Bob Hearts Abishola.

“It’s such a gift. I thought my ticket was stamped after Mike & Molly. I had no idea I was gonna get another ride with another wonderful cast and a show that I think has a beautiful sentiment about it,” Billy admitted. “I’m always attracted to stuff where love conquers all, no matter what the situation is.”

2024

“I went from a young Jackie Gleason to an old Paul Newman,” the Billy joked during an April 19 appearance on Live With Kelly and Mark about how different he looked following his dramatic weight loss.

The comedian explained how the COVID-19 pandemic caused him to “make some changes” over the “last three years.”

“I had a lot of the dangerous [comorbidities],” he explained. “When they made that list of, you know, overweight. Type 2 diabetes. Smoker. Asthma. I’m like, ‘Check! Check! Bingo!’”

Billy underwent bariatric surgery in 2021 and revealed, “My diabetes is gone, so it’s all good stuff.” However, he still occasionally has the urge to eat more than his body will allow.

“The Hulk is still in there,” he said, explaining, “I’m constantly a hostage negotiator between my brain and my stomach because my brain’s like, ‘Uh, you can’t eat that, you can’t eat that! You’re full!’ My stomach’s, like ‘That’s never stopped us before.’ So I have to balance it, but I work on it every day.”
