Bob Saget’s Legacy Will Always Be Remembered: ‘His Loving Heart Is the Most Special Thing’

On October 29, friends and family of the late comedian Bob Saget paid tribute to the star at L.A.’s annual Cool Comedy, Hot Cuisine event, which benefits the Scleroderma Research Foundation. “This cause was so important to him because he lost his sister, Gay, to this disease in 1994,” Bob’s widow, Kelly Rizzo, told Closer. “It was a very personal thing for him.”

Bob would have been proud. The event not only raised more than $1.3 million for SRF, but the show of love and support for the actor, who passed away in 2022 at age 65, was overwhelming.

“Bob was one of the kindest, most generous people that I knew,” his former Full House costar Candice Cameron Bure told Closer. “And he really made me laugh — and made everyone laugh. But I think his loving heart is the most special thing. I miss him every day.”

Musician John Mayer said that raising awareness for SRF is one of the ways he and others keep Bob’s legacy alive. “It’s our way of continuing to show our love for Bob,” he said.

In addition to his acting career, Bob was a loving father of three daughters, Aubrey, Lara and Jennifer, whom he shared with ex-wife Sherri Kramer.

After losing her dad, Lara penned a heartfelt tribute on Instagram in January 2022.

“To anyone afraid to love, Unconditional love is the greatest of gifts. My dad loved with everything he had,” she wrote. “He had so many reasons to be scared to love. So many loved ones kept dropping the body. Instead of being scared, he loved more. I am beyond grateful to receive and to give that love.”

“Love completely and be kind,” she added. “Of all the lessons he taught me, these feel the biggest. With love.”

Kelly revealed that she is still close to Bob’s daughters after his death.

“Do you and Bob’s girls still talk and get along? He was the best,” one person asked her on Instagram in June 2022.

“I’d call it more than getting along,” she responded. “We love each other very very much and talk or text every day — and we’re just so so grateful to be as close as we are because it’s not always the case with stepfamilies.”

Currently, Kelly is dating actor Breckin Meyer.

“Breckin has just been such a blessing also because he’s just so wonderful and supportive and, you know, he’s here with me tonight,” she said of their romance. “Which, you know, it’s, it’s a big thing, you know, to come to an event like this where it’s honoring my late husband, you know? So, he’s just been so wonderful. So, I would say I’ve been very, very fortunate because I know not everybody who loses his spouse has such an easy time.”

“We joke all the time that Breckin is, like, the one person on earth that he would actually be OK with,” she added.
