Candace Cameron Bure Reveals ‘Favorite’ Memory With Late ‘Full House’ Costar Bob Saget: ‘Kindest’
Candace Cameron Bure opened up about her 35-year friendship with her late costar Bob Saget, exclusively telling Closer about her “favorite” memory together.
“Some of my greatest memories were being like 17, 16, got my car and we would like to sit in the car,” Candace, 48, says while on the red carpet for Cool Comedy • Hot Cuisine Benefiting the Scleroderma Research Foundation on Tuesday, October 29. “Scott Weinger from the show also. And Bob would just like play us the coolest music. And so, he, yeah, influenced my musical taste.”
Candace and Bob worked together on the set of Full House, which aired on ABC from 1987 to 1995. Bob portrayed Danny Tanner, a single father raising three children, while Candace took on the role of his eldest daughter, D.J. Tanner.
“I miss him every day. Bob was one of the kindest, most generous people that I knew. And he really made me laugh and makes everyone laugh. But I think his loving heart is the most special thing,” she explains. “And anyone that was in contact with him or even just ran into him could see what a kind, generous man he was.”
Bob died on January 9, 2022, at the age of 65 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Florida. He was traveling as part of his stand-up tour at the time. It was later determined that Bob’s death was caused by accidental head trauma.
The sitcom actress makes a conscious effort to keep Bob’s memory alive by “thinking about him a lot.”
“We talk about his memories,” she says. “So, if something reminds me of him, we just share it. And I think that’s how you keep anyone’s memory alive is to keep talking about them.”

Candace was known to be “very protective” of her TV dad, as Bob once shared with his widow, Kelly Rizzo. In June, Candace appeared on Kelly’s podcast, “Comfort Food with Kelly Rizzo,” where Kelly, 45, shared that Candace was one of the first people to arrive at her home following the news of Bob’s death.
“It’s just something that I will forever be grateful to you for,” Kelly told the Full House alum. Candace said that Bob’s death was “so shocking” and that she “didn’t hesitate” to travel to their home after finding out the news.
“I mean, it was 100 percent for you, but also for me too,” Candace responded. “It was like … you just can’t quite comprehend it. And then, with that kind of loss, you just want to be around the people that you love and talk it through and maybe find out more answers.”
Bob married the food and travel blogger in 2018. Before that, he was married to his first wife, Sherri Kramer, from 1982 to 1997. During that marriage, Saget welcomed three daughters: Aubrey, Lara, and Jennifer. Kelly has since moved on with actor Breckin Meyer, confirming their romance at a 2024 Grammy Awards viewing party.
Kelly exclusively told Closer that dating was “hard to navigate” after her husband’s death but was sure that Bob would’ve given his stamp of approval on her relationship with Breckin, 50.
“We joke all the time that Breckin is, like, the one person on Earth that he would actually be OK with,” she shared on October 29.
