Candace Cameron Bure Reveals How Holiday Traditions Have Changed Now That Her Kids Are Older

Candace Cameron Bure opens up about how her holiday traditions have changed now that her kids are older during an exclusive interview with Closer.

While promoting her latest Great American Family movie, A Christmas Less Traveled, Candace, 48, tells Closer that the holidays have become “more meaningful” as her and husband Valeri “Val” Bure’s children have “gotten older.”

“My kids are still very much near us. I mean, even the one that’s the farthest from us, she’s gonna fly into town. And so we’re still all together,” Candace says of her family’s plans for Christmas. “We’re a really close family, so all three of my kids and my daughter in love will all be here for Christmas morning.”

Candace and Val, 50, share kids Natasha, 26, Lev, 24, and Maksim, 22. Their family grew when Lev married wife Elliott Dunham in January.

“It’s a day for family and friends, but I think because they are older it’s less and less about the presents,” the Full House alum explains of how her kids’ perspectives about the holiday have changed. “As we all age, I think it becomes less about that and more about the conversation and the time spent together.”

Candace adds that one of her favorite Christmas traditions is having her family wake up to watch the sunrise together. “Hence, even waking up to watch the sunrise together as a family … they’re beautiful things and they’re just more mature at this stage,” she says. “I love it.”

The mother of three concludes the topic by explaining that “age gives us perspective.”

Not only does Candace open up about how the holidays have changed for her family, but she also teases her upcoming Great American Family movies, A Christmas Less Traveled and Home Sweet Christmas.

Candace stars in Christmas Less Traveled alongside Eric Johnson. “I play a woman whose dad has recently passed away, and she discovers an old audio cassette tape that he left behind for her. And he tells her about many of his regrets in life and the things that he wished he would’ve shared with her while he was still alive,” she explains about the plot. “She goes on this journey on a road trip along with his voice to discover all those things. And of course, in true Christmas fashion, she meets a handsome stranger along the way who joins her for that trip.”

Meanwhile, Candace stars alongside Cameron Mathison in Home Sweet Christmas. She appears as a lawyer who returns home after inheriting part of a maple forest from her uncle, and she reconnects with a childhood friend played by Cameron, 55.

“I absolutely adore Cameron Mathison and I have wanted to do a movie together for so many years and we’ve been friends for a really long time. And we finally got put together,” she says about the film.

A Christmas Less Traveled premieres on Great American Family on Saturday, November 16, at 8 p.m. ET and Home Sweet Christmas will air on Sunday, December 1, at 8 p.m. ET.
