Cher & Costume Designer Bob Mackie End 42-Year Professional Partnership

After designing costumes for the legendary diva over a span of four decades, Bob Mackie and pop icon Cher have parted ways, according to the singer.

The pair have worked together since the beginning of her career after meeting on the set of The Carol Burnett Show.

The 67-year-old reveals that Mackie declined to dress her for the upcoming Dressed to Kill Tour, which kicks off on March 22 and features special guests Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo.

The star tweeted:

She also revealed who Mackie’s replacement is, writing, “THANK GOD I HAVE A LOVELY MAN & WONDERFUL DESIGNER !! HUGH DURANT. HE IS TALENTED
& BRAVE WE WILL PERSEVERE.”

The 73-year-old Mackie, who made history with the raven-haired beauty when she became the first woman ever to bare her midriff on television, has described what dressing the international superstar is like.

“It’s not like dressing a regular person, it’s like dressing a crazy goddess,” he told Women’s Wear Daily. “Sometimes she’s an Egyptian goddess and sometimes she’s a biker chic goddess.”

The designer has also created costumes for Judy Garland, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, Liza Minnelli and Tina Turner.
