Chip and Joanna Get Real About Parenting a Newborn Eight Years After Welcoming Their Last Baby
It's no surprise that HGTV couple Chip Gaines and Joanna Gaines are parenting experts after having five kids, but even they admit it's been a little weird having a newborn at home eight years after they welcomed their last baby, daughter Emmie Kay.
"I have forgotten almost everything, so it feels brand new. I tell Chip that I feel 25, and in my mind, there's something about it that gives me an extra kick in my step," Jo, 40, told People in a recent interview. "We think about things like when Emmie goes off to college this little one will only be 10. It’s just crazy to think how wide that gap is, but Chip just loves hanging out with the kids and it’s just such a sweet thing."
Joanna gave birth to her fifth baby, son Crew Gaines, with hubby Chip, 43, on June 21. The proud dad announced his newborn baby boy's arrival on Twitter by writing, "And then there were 5… The Gaines crew is now 1 stronger! 10 beautiful toes and 10 beautiful fingers all accounted for, and big momma is doing great! #BlessedBeyondBelief."
Joanna — who is also a mom to kids Drake, 13, Duke, 10, Ella Rose, 11, and Emmie, 8 — later revealed her son's cute name on Instagram. "Our baby boy, Crew Gaines, is here and we couldn’t be more in love. He made an unexpected (and speedy) entrance into the world two and a half weeks early — which is fitting given he was a sweet surprise from day one. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. We are so grateful," she wrote.
So, what's next for Chip and Jo? According to the Fixer Upper duo, anything is possible. "We’re looking forward to what’s to come, and what’s to come, we have no idea. I think one thing about me and Chip is that we never like to look really far in advance and plan, that’s never been how we are. I joke with my friends that I’m going to be that 45-year-old who’s pregnant. We’ve always kind of rolled really spontaneous," Joanna told People. We can't wait to see whatever adventure is next for the Gaines clan!
