Is Chris Meloni Returning to 'Law & Order: SVU'? - Closer Weekly

Unfortunately, it seems Detective Elliot Stabler won’t be solving crimes with Olivia Benson again anytime soon.

When recently asked about his rumored return to Law & Order: SVU, Chris Meloni responded, “No, I heard that rumor along with everybody else. I have no idea where that came from or what that’s about.”

Chris, 54, previously starred on the popular show since its start in 1999, but left abruptly after Season 12 ended in 2011. His unexpected exit left fans without a proper send-off for the actor — and they’ve been wanting him back on the show ever since!

When asked about whether the drama — Season 18 premieres this week! — should end after this upcoming season, Chris said he wasn’t quite sure. “I haven’t been keeping tabs on it,” the Underground star sadly told HuffPost Live on Monday, March 7. “Look, it’s a business. It’ll stay on as long as people are watching it, you know? And it doesn’t matter if the people are having fun except for the people who are watching it.”
