Craig Melvin and Savannah Guthrie’s Playful ‘Rivalry Goes International’ as He Heads to Milan
Today coanchors Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin tried to one up each other in a new video posted on Today’s Instagram account.
The playful clip, which was posted on Wednesday, February 12, featured a caption that said, “Savannah and Craig’s rivalry goes international.”
In the first part of the video, Savannah, 53, stood on the Today set in New York City with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. Fresh off of his Super Bowl 2025 win, Jalen, 26, was all smiles as Savannah addressed the camera.
“Hey Craig and Tirico, I really miss you, but look who I’m with,” she said. “Don’t hurry back.”
“I’ll see your video with Jalen Hurts and raise you Mike Tirico,” Craig, 45, responded as the video cut to him standing in Milan with sportscaster Mike Tirico in front of a stunning view of buildings. “Oh, and by the way, Milan too. So yeah.”
“We win as usual,” Mike, 58, said with confidence.
“Tush push that,” Craig hilariously said while ending the video.
In the comments section of the post, viewers were trying to decide which cohost won this round of their ongoing playful rivalry.
“Well, this is adorable,” one person commented on the video, while another said, “Love Craig’s reference to the tush push at the end!”
“Savannah wins this one,” one person said, as another argued, “Craig wins – he’s in Italy.”

The video had a humorous undertone to it, as Savannah is a Philadelphia Eagles fan, while Craig is a fan of the Washington Commanders. The teams faced off in the NFC championship game last month, where the Eagles came out on top and eventually won the 2025 Super Bowl.
Savannah and Craig made a bet ahead of the NFC Championship game that whoever’s team lost the game would have to get a temporary tattoo of the other person’s face and wear it for the week. Craig was true to his word when he got a temporary tattoo of Savannah decked out in Eagle gear on the back of his neck during a January 27 episode of Today.
“Let this be a lesson. Don’t gamble,” Craig hilariously said while unveiling the tattoo.
Craig and Mike are currently in Milan to give viewers a preview of the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games. Shortly after Craig’s hilarious bit with Savannah was posted, he unveiled the mascots of the 2026 Winter Olympics, Milo and Tina.
“For the very first time, I introduce you to the official mascots of the 2026 Winter and Paralympic games. We’ve got Milo here and Tina,” he said while standing next to the mascots. “Milo, of course, is short for Milano, and we’ve got Tina here. Tina, short for Cortina. And if you were wondering, I’m sure you are, they are stoats. Stoats are a short-tailed mammal found in the Italian Alps. The cousin of the weasel. Don’t think that’s offensive. Cousin of the weasel.”
Craig’s commentary about the mascots had his cohosts back in the studio laughing.
“Obsessed doesn’t even begin to cover my love for this duo,” one person said, as another wrote, “Adorable.”
