Today’s Craig Melvin and Wife Lindsay Czarniak ‘Shine When They Work Together’: ‘She’s So Proud of Him’
Craig Melvin is loving his new gig on the Today show and being encouraged every step of the way by his wife, Lindsay Czarniak, who’s being tipped for more guest slots after knocking it out the park in her recent guest appearance.
“The relationship Craig and Lindsay have is so adorable, they really shine when they work together because their on-air banter is so authentic,” an insider exclusively tells Closer. “In their everyday life they love to tease each other, they’re very playful and people got a glimpse of that when she came on the show.”
“They actually worked together when they first met and fell in love, she was a sports anchor and he was a news anchor, so they have a proven track record,” the insider adds. “It won’t surprise anyone if Lindsay eventually ends up joining the show on a full-time basis but first the network will start with testing her out, that’s what they typically do. She did gangbusters in her first test but she will need to prove herself over time with more guest spots. In the meantime she’s Craig’s biggest cheerleader, she’s so proud of him.”
Craig, 45, and Lindsay, 47, first met while they were both working at an NBC affiliate in Washington, D.C., in 2008. They were friends first before things turned romantic after a night out.
“That night when we met, there was something that clicked. And it wasn’t necessarily that I knew, ‘I have to be with this guy.’ But it was like, ‘I don’t want to be with anyone else that I’d hung out with,'” Lindsay told The Washington Post in 2008. “It felt like being with the person that really gets you and that you’ve known for a really, really long time.”

The couple got married in 2011 and welcomed two children together, son Delano, 11, and daughter Sybil, 8.
Craig’s family was on hand to surprise him on Today after it was announced that he would be taking over Hoda Kotb’s role as Savannah Guthrie’s coanchor amid her departure from the show.
“He’s a great dad, and he deserves to be here today,” Delano said after walking out onto the stage during the January 13 episode, Craig’s first broadcast in his new role.
Sybil wrote a sweet letter to her dad in honor of his big day on the job. “My dad loves to play with me. He loves tickle fights, and he watches TV shows with me,” she read from a piece of paper as an emotional Craig looked on.
Lindsay currently works as broadcaster for Fox Sports. She’s filled in for cohosts on Today a number of times in the past, sitting next to her husband at the news desk, much to the delight of viewers.
Through his fame on Today and his recent promotion, Craig was thankful for fellow journalist Lindsay for always sticking by him during his career.
“The best thing that’s ever happened to me personally and professionally is marrying Lindsay Czarniak,” he told People in a January 15 interview. “She doesn’t just get me as a person, as a husband — she understands the business.”
