Craig Melvin’s Wife Lindsay Czarniak Breaks Down in Tears After His ‘Today’ Promotion

Craig Melvin’s wife, Lindsay Czarniak, is so proud of him as he is gearing up to begin a new chapter of his career. The broadcaster was announced as Savannah Guthrie’s new coanchor on Today amid Hoda Kotb’s departure from the program.

The news was announced during an episode of the talk show on Thursday, November 14, as Craig was surrounded by his colleagues.

“I’m beyond excited and grateful,” he said after the announcement was made. “I wanted to thank NBC and the folks here who deemed me worthy … I have enjoyed just a lifetime of blessings, and this is the latest in a long line of blessings.”

Craig thanked Lindsay for being his rock throughout his time on Today.

“I’m just so thankful for her,” he gushed. “It’s a lot of long days and short nights, and she’s been there for me from the beginning.”

Lindsay praised her husband in several Instagram Stories after it was publicly revealed that he received a promotion on Today. “HUGE news. Just HUGE. I’m so incredibly proud of you,” she wrote in one Instagram Story.

“What a journey this has been. We can’t wait to watch you Melvin,” she penned alongside another photo of her husband.

In a third Instagram Story, Lindsay explained that she was on a flight home from Los Angeles, which meant that she couldn’t watch what was happening on the Today show live. However, she said she was very emotional by the exciting news.

“So I have friends and my husband’s assistant sending me videos. I am crying because I am just so proud of Melvin and happy for him,” she told her followers.

The Fox Sports reporter said that it was “so awesome” to get a glimpse of what was happening behind the scenes in videos. She shared one clip of Craig greeting people outside on the Today plaza, hugging and shaking people’s hands. In another video, the crowd chanted Craig’s name as he appeared to wipe a tear away from his face.

Craig and his costars then did a cheers and clinked glasses to celebrate the news. He will officially make his debut as Hoda’s replacement during an episode of Today on January 13. Hoda will mark her exit from the show in a celebratory episode on January 10.

Fans are thrilled to see Craig taking over the coveted spot on the hosting panel.

“Congratulations to Craig!!! So happy for you and looking forward to many more years of my morning coffee with you!!!” one person said in a comment on Today’s Instagram account.

“Great news! A man with SC ties! And a stellar human being! Way to go NBC! Make the Today Show great again! Many blessings, Craig!” another said.

“How many regular watchers are crying with me? It’s hard to find a man of integrity and empathy on television today,” another fan wrote. “You are he. There couldn’t be a smarter choice for NBC. Simply thrilled for you and happy for the Today Show family of watchers.”
