David Lee Roth & Beach Boys’ Mike Love Duet On Classic 1965 Hit “California Girls!”

Fans of the Beach Boys were in for a treat when member Mike Love was joined by Van Halen rocker David Lee Roth for a lively performance of the band's 1965 hit, "California Girls," at the 21st Ella Awards in Beverly Hills.

Roth, though not a Beach Boy, covered the classic, written by Love and Brian Wilson, two decades after the original was released.

The 59-year-old surprised guests by flying in from Tokyo to attend the event. Fellow Beach Boy fanatic, John Stamos, served as the evening's host and joined in on guitar during the song.

"I’m supposed to make a small address here," Roth told the audience. "I don’t know how small this can be – these are clearly mentors."

He then went on to joke, "If you tear open the first Van Halen album, beach sand falls out. We picked up the ball a few summers after you fellas."
