Diane Keaton Once Attempted to Be a Cheerleader: ‘These Legs Are Too Skinny’

Legendary actress Diane Keaton is of course known for her lengthy film resume and her impact on the industry, but her career could have taken a different route if her attempt at cheerleading would have taken off how she hoped.

The 73-year-old was recently at the STX Entertainment presentation at 2019 CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where she discussed many things, including her upcoming film Poms, which focuses on a group of older women who form a cheerleading squad at their retirement community. But the actress actually tried to be part of the cheer squad back way back when.

“It didn’t go well,” the Oscar-winner said of her attempt at making the cheerleading team. “If I show you my legs, you’ll see why. See these legs are too skinny,” she continued, while showing them off. “There is no strength in these legs. I was really grateful I had a lot of time to work on it [for the movie].” Diane has been in plenty of films, with her most memorable arguably being Annie Hall.

“Why am not richer though?” she joked, when reminded of all the films she’s been in. “I’m worried about that. Just being in those movies is kind of like a dream. You know how many movies I’ve been in? 68. Isn’t that insane?! That’s a lot of movies.” When asked how she has found herself in so many projects,” the Something’s Gotta Give star said, “The tread has been I got the job. I have accepted every job that I’ve been offered my entire career.”

She added, “By the way, I auditioned for many and didn’t get them. I once auditioned for Jack Nicolson for Goin’ South but he went with somebody else. It didn’t go well for me.”

DIane’s Poms also stars Jacki Weaver and Rhea Perlman, and will be released everywhere on May 10.
