When asked during a September 2024 interview with CBS Sunday Morning about what she sees when she looks in the mirror, Demi gave a candid response.

“Uhm, it fluctuates. Some days I look and I’m like, ‘Wow. That’s pretty good.’  And some days, I catch myself dissecting, hyper-focusing on, you know, things that I don’t like,” she explained. “The difference is, now I can catch myself. I can go, ‘Yeah, I don’t like that loose skin.’ But, you know, it is what it is. So, I’m gonna make the best of what is, as opposed to chasing what isn’t.”

When asked for an example, Demi said, “I used to think, ‘Oh, like my face, it’s like, oh so, like, chubby. I have no angles. I have nothing.’ And then you’re like, ‘Yeah, but now it’s, like, loose!’ I wouldn’t mind some of that chubbiness back, in the right places!”

The star gave a heartfelt acceptance speech after taking home her first trophy for acting at the Golden Globe Awards in January 2025.

“Thirty years ago, I had a producer tell me that I was a popcorn actress. At that time, I made that mean that this wasn’t something that I was allowed to have,” she said, referring to her trophy for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical. “That I could do movies that were successful and made a lot of money, but that I couldn’t be acknowledged and I bought in, and I believed that.”

“That corroded me over time, to the point where I thought a few years ago that maybe this was it. Maybe I was complete, maybe I’d done what I was supposed to do,” she continued.

“And as I was at kind of a low point, I had this magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box, absolutely bonkers script come across my desk called The Substance. And the universe told me, ‘You’re not done,’” Demi added about her award-winning role.
