Are you even a Grey's Anatomy fan if you haven't feared Meredith Grey's death? Seriously… if you've ever watched an episode of the medical drama then you know that the self-proclaimed "dark and twisty" surgeon almost dies in every other episode. Okay, maybe not every other episode — but, enough for it to become a noticeable trend.

In the Season 9 finale, Cristina Yang said, "Meredith Grey has survived a bomb, a drowning, a gunman, and a plane crash and she’s still here." How many TV characters can you say that about? Grey's wouldn't be the show it is without the drama. And Meredith wouldn't be the heroine we root for if she wasn't such a survivor. Keep scrolling to see all the times Meredith Grey beat death!

Season 2, Episodes 16 and 17 — "It's the End of the World" and "As We Know It"

Almost cause of death: Bomb explosion

The Grey's "bomb episodes" were stressful because an EMT had her hand in a body cavity with an explosive (that had yet to detonate). Then that EMT ran out leaving Meredith with her hand inside the body cavity. Good news? Mer didn't explode. Bad news? Kyle Chandler's character did.

Season 8, Episode 24 — "Flight"

Almost cause of death: Plane crash

Mer was able to survive the plane crashed unharmed (physically at least). Sadly she said goodbye to sister Lexie Grey and Derek Shepherd's best friend, Mark Sloan.

Season 3, Episode 16 — "Drowning on Dry Land"

Almost cause of death: Drowning

Even the most casual Grey's fan knows that Meredith has issues. She's "dark and twisty," remember? Even though she's overcome a lot of her early-season issues — it's hard to forget how she almost (not-so-accidentally) drowned in Season 3. The moment she fell into the water and then "stopped fighting" was hard to watch… thank goodness Derek jumped in to save her.

Season 12, Episode 9 — "The Sound of Silence"

Almost cause of death: Assault

Sometimes doctors try not to kill the patients. And other times patients try to kill the doctors. Meredith was able to survive being brutally attacked by a patient who was not in his right mind in Season 12.

Season 6, Episode 24: — "Death and All His Friends"

Almost cause of death: Gun-shot wound

The second half of the Season 6 two-part finale took the Seattle doctors from a bad situation to a worse situation. Not only was there an active shooter in the hospital, but Meredith decided to tell him to shoot her in an effort to save her loved ones. Thankfully, that didn't happen.

Season 9, Episode 24 — "Perfect Storm"

Almost cause of death: Childbirth

Don't let MerDer's smiling faces fool you. Meredith's delivery of Bailey wasn't simple. In most cases, Caesarean sections aren't life-threatening — but, Mer isn't most people. She needed a C-section during an electrical outage… and almost bled out. Thankfully she's proven time and time that she's basically immortal.
