George Clooney

George Clooney’s role as Dr. Doug Ross on ER launched him toward the bona fide superstar he is today. George left the show after 5 seasons to pursue his directing career, along with taking on more roles in films. However, he made cameo appearances in season 6 and in ER’s final season.

Since his time on the show, George has appeared in several films including the Ocean’s 11 franchise, The Manchurian Candidate and more. Most recently, George teamed up with longtime friend and Ocean’s costar Brad Pitt for the film, Wolfs.

George tied the knot with Amal Clooney (née Alamuddin) in 2014. Alongside his career in Hollywood, he’s an advocate for various humanitarian projects.

Julianna Margulies

Julianna Margulies played nurse Carol Hathaway on ER, and Doug Ross’ love interest. Producers originally planned for Julianna’s character to commit suicide at the end of the premiere episode, but test audiences reacted so positively to her, she became a regular.

After her time on ER, Julianna landed roles in several other projects ranging from The Good Wife to The Sopranos. In 2021, she joined the cast of The Morning Show and published her memoir, Sunshine Girl.

Eriq La Salle

Eriq La Salle starred as Peter Benton on ER from seasons 1 through 8. Fans saw him go from a second-year surgical resident to a full-time surgeon at the hospital. During his time on the series, Peter welcomed a son who had acute hearing loss after being born prematurely. In ER season 6, Peter began dating Dr. Cleo Finch, who he eventually married.

Eriq returned for ER’s final season, and then went on to star in other TV series like Stephen King’s Under the Dome and Angie Tribeca. He also had a role in the superhero film, Logan.

Noah Wyle

When ER premiered, Noah Wyle’s character, John Carter, was a third-year medical student. Noah starred as part of the lead cast in seasons 1 through 11, until his character left to continue his work in Africa. He returned for a four-episode arc in season 12, as well as for five episodes in the final season.

Before his time on ER, Noah had a role in A Few Good Men, and since the medical drama ended, he’s continued acting. In 2021, he began starring as Harry Wilson in the TV series Leverage: Redemption.

Noah married his second wife, Sara Wyle (née Wells), in 2014, and they share one child. He has two children from his marriage to makeup artist Tracy Warbin.

Anthony Edwards

Anthony Edwards was one of the starring cast members of ER in the role of Dr. Mark Greene. During his time on the series from seasons 1 through 8, Anthony’s character became a fan favorite, and essentially the face of the show. Dr. Greene was eventually diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer that led to his death and Anthony’s exit from the show.

After leaving ER, Anthony went on to land roles in popular series like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Tales of the Walking Dead and more.

Maura Tierney

Maura Tierney joined ER in season 6 as nurse Abby Lockhart. Maura made her debut in the series as Carol Hathaway’s labor and delivery nurse. Three months later, she joined the cast as a regular. Maura remained as a main cast member until the final season.

After ER ended, Maura starred in several TV series like Rescue Me, The Good Wife and more. In 2024, she appeared alongside Glen Powell in the summer blockbuster Twisters.

Laura Innes

Laura Innes played Dr. Kerry Weaver in ER, who fans first met in season 2. Producers bumped Laura up to a series regular in the following season, and she’s seen in the most episodes of the show other than Noah’s character, Dr. Carter. Laura left the show after season 13, but she made guest appearances in the final season.

After ER, Laura starred in TV series The Event, Awake and How to Get Away With Murder.

Mekhi Phifer

Mekhi Phifer joined ER in season 8 and remained as part of the cast until its final season. The New York native starred as Dr. Greg Pratt, who appeared as a recurring character in season 8. Producers decided to bring Mekhi on as a series regular in season 9. In the ER season 15 premiere, Mekhi’s character was killed when he succumbed to injuries he received in an explosion.

After leaving ER in 2008, Mekhi landed a role in the TV series Lie to Me as Ben Reynolds. He’s also had roles in Torchwood, White Collar and more. Mekhi is married to Reshelet Barnes, and he has two sons from previous relationships.

Kellie Martin

Fans remember Kellie Martin as medical student Lucy Knight in ER seasons 5 and 6. Her character often butted heads with Carol Hathaway and John Carter. However, Lucy and John had a brief fling before John broke things off for ethical reasons. Kellie’s character met a devastating end in season 6 when she’s stabbed by a patient and eventually died from complications.

Since her time on ER, Kellie has left her mark on several TV movies, including Death of a Cheerleader, An Amish Sin and more. In 1999, she married Keith Christian and the couple share two daughters.
