Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling Are in Crazy, Stupid, Love! See the Couple’s Relationship Timeline

2011

Eva and Ryan were first romantically linked after they began production on The Place Beyond the Pines in 2011. According to a source, the actress and the star had incredible chemistry both on and offset.

“They were very playful. Eva was skipping around like a little girl … She would lean into him and she held his arm the entire time,” the insider told Us Weekly in September 2011.

2012

The lovebirds fueled more rumors that they were dating when Eva appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in May 2012. When the TV host inquired about her relationship with the Blue Valentine star, all she could do was laugh it off.

The following month, though, Eva was spotted attending Ryan’s mother’s graduation from Brock University in Toronto. In a tweet from an attendee at the event, Eva can be seen in the crowd.

2014

In February 2014, Eva shut down speculation that she was pregnant after reports came out that she was avoiding X-ray machines at the airport. While stopping by The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the 2 Fast 2 Furious actress offered a reason why.

“You know those X-ray scanners, which are really creepy? They basically see you naked, right? And not only that, but there’s a radiation aspect to it, so I always opt out,” she dished.

However, just five months later, Us Weekly reported the pair was expecting their first child together, and by September, Esmeralda Amada was born. Though neither star commented on their tot’s arrival, the actress opened up about the inspiration behind her name during an interview with The Violet Files.

“Ryan and I both love the Esmeralda character from the Victor Hugo novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and we just think it’s a beautiful name,” she shared. “Amada was my grandmother’s name. It means ‘beloved’ in Spanish.”

2015

Following their first child’s birth, Eva and Ryan returned to the big screen for Lost River. He wrote and directed the sci-fi drama, while Eva starred alongside Christina Hendricks.

“Being in the film Lost River was nothing short of a magical experience. I would love to either act opposite him again or be directed by him at some point. I just love working with him,” Eva gushed in May 2019. “In a career of 20+ years, to have my two most incredible creative experiences be with him, of course, I’d want a third.”

2016

The duo expanded their family in April 2016 when their second daughter, Amada, was born. Eva told Hello! that they considered naming their little girl Vivian, but they “just kept going back to Amada” despite already giving that moniker to their older daughter, Esmeralda Amada.

“In true Latin fashion, we reuse names all the time,” she noted. “I actually told [Ryan], ‘This is common in Latin culture,’ so it wouldn’t be crazy.”

2018

After starring in the Fate of the Furious in 2017, Eva took a step back from her Hollywood career to focus on motherhood. “I’m just so obsessed with my kids that I don’t want to leave them,” she told E! News. “They’re just still so little.”

2019

While chatting about her beau in a rare interview with Women’s Health in April 2019, Eva credited Ryan for making her a mother. Before she fell in love with the First Man actor, Eva never imagined having children.

“Ryan Gosling happened,” she marveled. “I mean, falling in love with him. Then it made sense for me to have…not kids, but his kids. It was very specific to him.”

2020

It doesn’t take much to realize how incredible Ryan and Eva are as parents, but the doting mom doesn’t post about her kiddos on social media. While replying to a fan’s Instagram comment in April 2020, Eva revealed the reason fans don’t see much of her family online.

“I have always had a clear boundary when it comes to my man and my kids. I’ll talk about them of course, with limits, but I won’t post pictures of our daily life,” she explained. “And since my children are still so little and don’t understand what posting their image really means, I don’t have their consent. And I won’t post their image until they’re old enough to give me consent.”

2021

Are Eva and Ryan married?! The longtime loves sparked engagement rumors when they were spotted on a hike in Los Feliz, California. The Last Night actress sported a ring on her left-hand ring finger, Page Six reported, while enjoying a family outing in January 2021.

Even if they are, it’s not likely Eva and Ryan will announce it!

2022

Ryan landed the role of Ken in the live-action Barbie film that began shooting in London in February 2022. He was joined by Eva and the girls on the “much-needed getaway,” a source told Closer exclusively the following month. The couple were pictured out with their daughters on separate occasions, strolling around the city and making memories together in between Ryan’s filming schedule.
“During the day, she likes taking the girls to museums, long walks through the many gorgeous parks and spotting famous monuments,” the insider added. “Amada and Esmeralda spend some time with daddy and then the nannies take over for the evening so she and Ryan can have a romantic dinner and hit the theater.”

2024

Ryan walked the Oscars 2024 red carpet with his older sister, Mandi, and mom Donna. Eva opted to skip the carpet. Instead, she supported her beau backstage, sharing an Instagram photo in front of his dressing room. “Always by my man,” she captioned one post. Ryan then took the stage in a hot pink suit to perform “I’m Just Ken” from Barbie.

After the performance, Eva shared another Instagram photo while wearing Ryan’s pink jacket.

“You took Ken all the way to the Oscar’s, RG. Now come home, we need to put the kids to bed,” she captioned the picture.

August 2024

Ryan and Eva were spotted watching the dressage individual Grand Prix freestyle at the Chateau de Versailles and then attending the women’s gymnastics uneven bars final at Bercy Stadium with their kids. He sported a couple of different Olympic-themed hats during the outings to show his support for the athletes. Their latest outing proves they are still going strong after more than a decade together!
