The Truth About Mickey Rooney’s Final Years

In Mickey Rooney’s last years, he was so poor he needed to glue his shoes together. He was said to be living in a rat-infested apartment, suffering from dementia.

When he passed away at 93 in 2014, Mickey didn’t have enough money to pay for his own funeral.

It’s not disputed that the Hollywood legend died with only $18,000. “The question is, who took the money?” says biographer William J. Birnes. The answer depends on whom you ask.

In 2011, Mickey testified before a Senate subcommittee that he was a victim of elder abuse. And photos of a bruised and bloody Mickey raised suspicions of his treatment under the care of eighth wife Jan Chamberlin. She denied mistreating him.
