Fans Call Out ‘Today’ Show for Willie Geist Photoshop Fail in New Holiday Card Photo
Today unveiled the show’s new holiday card, and fans pointed out that it appears one cast member was Photoshopped into the picture.
Savannah Guthrie shared a behind-the-scenes look at the holiday card photo shoot on her Instagram page. In the photos, which were posted on Thursday, November 28, the Today team danced around a room that was decked out in balloons, confetti and disco balls.
Savannah, 52, was joined by Hoda Kotb, Al Roker, Craig Melvin, Carson Daly, Dylan Dreyer, Peter Alexander, Jenna Bush Hager, Laura Jarrett and Sheinelle Jones during the photo shoot, in which they led a conga line across the room and playfully held onto Hoda’s legs so she would not leave. This marks Hoda’s final holiday photo shoot with the Today team as she will officially be leaving the morning talk show in January.
But perhaps the thing that fans noticed most in the holiday card portrait that was unveiled in Savannah’s Instagram carousel, was that it appeared Willie Geist was Photoshopped in. All of the other Today members appeared to be posing naturally, while Willie’s portrait looked glossy and out of place, as if it was taken at another time.
“Was Willie photoshopped in lol?” one person asked, to which another person responded, “I said the same thing, Willie was photoshopped!”
“Why is Willie photoshopped?” another person asked, while another said, “Willie was a cardboard cutout!”
“Was Willie Geist photoshopped into the last photo? Curious fans want to know…” another said, while a person responded, “I think he was.”
And the comments and questions kept on coming. “Willie looks photoshopped,” a comment said, as another echoed, “Poor Willie….a cardboard cutout.”
Regardless of whether or not the network favorite was Photoshopped in, an insider told Closer that he is one of the people who may be in contention to replace Hoda, 60, on the fourth hour of Today.
“Willie Geist is a name that keeps getting mentioned, he and Jenna get along great, he has a proven track record and the fans seem to love him,” and insider told Closer earlier this week. “Michelle Buteau is another person that the bosses are very keen on giving a chance to and the word is she’ll be getting a chance to cohost and show her stuff, as well as Justin Sylvester and Michelle Collins.”
Others pointed out how much they love the Today crew and how they really get into the holiday spirit each year.
“You all have so much fun! I love it,” Paula Faris commented.
Another person wrote, “OMG you are such a fabulous group of people!!”
It truly is going to be the end of an era when Hoda leaves the show, as she has been such a shining light each morning.
“She’s going to miss her Today family, especially her close friends like Al Roker and Savannah Guthrie,” an insider exclusively told Closer this week. “Hoda has admitted it’s like leaving a family behind, and fans have made it clear how heartbroken they are to see her go.”
“Of course, the Today team has assured her she’ll always be welcome back, but the thought of walking away from such a huge paycheck, and the people she’s shared so many memories with, is bittersweet, to say the least,” the source added.
