Galey Alix Reveals ‘Home in a Heartbeat’ Is Not Returning for Season 2: ‘Not the Network’s Fault’

Galey Alix shockingly revealed that her 2023 HGTV series, Home in a Heartbeat, has come to an end after only one season.

The DIY expert explained the decision not to continue on with the show, in which she transformed homes with her team on the weekend, while balancing a career as an executive on Wall Street on weekdays.

“I feel like I set myself up for failure, because I wanted to renovate whole homes in 72 hours with my team,” she told People in an interview published on Wednesday, October 30. “But I’m also a perfectionist with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), which means I’m not going to let us cut any corners. We’re not going to throw things up, do it quickly and not make it perfect because I don’t have enough time. It had to be right.”

Galey told the outlet that her “nervous system was completely shutting down” while working on the design program. She explained that while working on season 1 of the show, she rarely got any sleep as she tried to get her projects done by their quick deadlines. But maintains that it was “not the network’s fault.”

“We would be awake for sometimes 86 hours straight, going up and down ladders and installing drywall, lighting, built-ins, wallpaper — all while the cameras were filming,” Galey said. “And then add on top of that, I’m also hosting, I’m also producing, I’m the contractor slash designer slash day-laborer. I was wearing so many hats. And my whole body was just literally decomposing in front of me.”

She called it a “really taxing” experience to film the show’s first season.

“It got to a point where it was just like, I don’t think I’d survive a season 2,” the home renovator told the outlet, adding, “I can’t do Home in a Heartbeat, because my heart will stop beating.”

While her run on Home in a Heartbeat is over, Galey assured fans that she has other “working ideas” and pitches for other shows.

“Whatever I wind up doing, it’ll be more streamlined,” she explained of her hopes for future projects. “It really can’t be something like we did. It really impacted the mental health of myself and my whole team.”

Galey also opened up to the outlet about her breakup with Bachelorette alum Dale Moss after two and a half years together.

“Nobody was unfaithful, nobody said anything nasty or attacking or biting. We were two people who really respected each other and cared about each other and were sad to say goodbye,” the TV personality told People on Thursday, October 31. “And we both, after being best friends and each other’s confidant and supporter and cheerleader all those years, still really love each other. It just isn’t meant to be.”

Galey said that something in their relationship was “missing” but she praised him for traveling to spend time with her while she worked on Home in a Heartbeat during their relationship.

“I give kudos to him because he flew almost every week, if not every couple of weeks, to be with me,” she said. “I had a sick dog, was filming and had been the one to fly all the time in my last long-distance relationship. So really stood my ground and said, ‘I don’t want to be the one traveling all the time.’ The onus was completely on Dale to fly back and forth, and he definitely carried that burden.”
