George and Amal Clooney’s Hollywood Romance Is Full of Love! See Their Relationship Timeline

July 2013 — George and Amal Meet

We hope George later bought his friend some dinner because it was thanks to a pal that the pair first met. “A mutual friend of ours said, ‘I’m stopping by and can I bring my friend?’” the ER alum once told David Letterman, adding his agent then called and said, “I met this woman who’s coming to your house who you’re gonna marry.”

Well, he wasn’t wrong. George also revealed, “I didn’t know if she wanted to go out with me. I just thought, you know, we were buddies.”

October 2013 — Their First Date

It took some time for George to ask out his future wife as he waited months to take her on a date. He later invited her out while he was in London doing the score for his film, Monuments Men, in October 2013.

“That was a good first date,” the Oscar winner recalled to the Hollywood Reporter. “We went for dinner. [Amal] said, ‘Let’s go to this place.’ It was one of those places that was incredibly hip and chic. And when we came out, there were 50 paparazzi there. But she handled it like a champ … Pretty quickly, things escalated.”

February 2014 — The Safari That Changed Everything

After months of dating, the pair went on a safari to Kenya. Upon returning, the Ocean’s Eleven star was convinced Amal was the woman for him.

“I had a picture of her, looking back, smiling at these giraffes,” he recalled to the Hollywood Reporter. “And I said, ‘I think I’m going to ask her to marry me.’ ”

April 2014 — George Proposes

After years of being a bachelor, George decided to take the plunge for the second time and proposed to Amal. In a 2016 interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the actor explained how he cooked a meal for Amal and had a playlist of romantic music playing. After their candlelit dinner, he told his brunette beauty to look behind her where he hid the ring in a box.

George continued, “I got down on my knee and I said, ‘I couldn’t imagine spending the rest of my life without you.'” She said yes, of course!

September 2014 — Just Married

In 2014, George and Amal tied the knot in a private ceremony at the Aman Canal Grande luxury resort in Venice, Italy. The event was attended by lots of famous faces including Cindy Crawford, Rande Gerber, Ellen Barkin, Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, just to name a few!

2016 — Quite the Social Activist Team

Even after the pair married, they didn’t turn their backs on what was important to them: social issues. The two began working together in 2016, even meeting up with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the Federal Chancellery to talk about refugee policy.

February 2017 — Amal and George Are Expecting

The duo kept it quiet for some time, but eventually, Julie Chen — who was a cohost on The Talk at the time — revealed that the lovebirds were expecting.

“Beyoncé is not the only superstar expecting twins,” she said at the time. “Congratulations are in order for George and Amal Clooney!”

June 2017 — Ella and Alexander Arrive

A few months after the world learned George and Amal were expecting, the happy couple welcomed twins. “This morning Amal and George welcomed Ella and Alexander Clooney into their lives,” a statement released to People by the pair read. “Ella, Alexander, and Amal are all healthy, happy, and doing fine. George is sedated and should recover in a few days.”

The Golden Globe winner once revealed his reaction when he learned he was having twins. “[The doctor said], ‘Well, there’s one.’ And I said, ‘Great.’ And then he goes, ‘And there’s the second one.’ And I was like, ‘What?’ We just sat there, staring at that piece of paper they give you, and I kept thinking there was a mistake,” George recalled.

2021 — More in Love Than Ever

As George and Amal geared up to celebrate their 7th wedding anniversary in 2021. Fans wondered if the pair had any plans to expand their family.

“Amal says their hands are full,” a friend close to the twosome exclusively told Closer. “But then they think of the Syrian children that need homes and they get really serious. Bringing home a Syrian refugee child would be a dream fulfilled for Amal.”

As for the kids they already have, their pal added, “They want Ella and Alexander to become advocates like they are. Growing up with an adoptive sibling would be a huge life lesson.”

During a December 2023 interview with Page Six, George said he married “up” when it came to locking down his romance with Amal.

“Yes, and I still do [think that],” he told the outlet after he was asked if he felt like he was “punching above” his level with his wife.
