1985

Born on May 6, 1961, George was destined to be a star. As the nephew of actress Rosemary Clooney, the acting gene ran through the Kentucky native’s veins. He appeared on E/R in 1985, as well as The Facts of Life. He sported a mullet back then!

1990

1992

George cut his hair a little bit shorter in the years after appearing on Roseanne. In 1994, he made his first appearance as Dr. Doug Ross on ER. Years after his performance on the series, the Kennedy Center honoree revealed that he was still close to his ER costars.

“They’re really good friends,” he said during an episode of The Drew Barrymore Show in October 2022. “And so, I feel that [show] was a job of a lifetime. And it changed my career.”

1997

Two years after marrying his wife, Amal Clooney, George stepped out at the 69th Cannes Film Festival. They welcomed kids Ella and Alexander in 2017.

“I couldn’t be more surprised at how happy I am. It’s a very odd thing I do have to say,” he said about fatherhood during a November 2021 episode of the “WTF With Marc Maron” podcast.

2023

The dad of two produced and directed The Boys in the Boat, a biographical sports film starring Joel Edgerton and Callum Turner. George explained that some of the rowers featured in the movie were actually professional athletes.

“We had Olympic rowers, and sometimes we lost guys because they had to go compete somewhere,” he told Esquire. “But we had a whole community of people that were playing a part of this, and they weren’t like, ‘f–cking Hollywood’ and treating these guys terribly. They were like, ‘OK, come on, we can make you guys look good.’ And they really did help.”
