‘Good Morning America’ Alums Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes’ Relationship: Dating Timeline and Updates
One of the biggest scandals of 2023 involved former Good Morning America costars Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes, who stepped down from their roles on the morning show after news of their relationship broke before they ended their respective marriages to Andrew Shue and Marilee Fiebig.
The former GMA3 anchors seem to have settled into their relationship, even starting a podcast together called “Amy and T.J.” On the podcast’s first episode, which premiered in December 2023, T.J. said the couple “lost the jobs [they] love because [they] love each other.” Since then, the duo have discussed many once-private aspects of their romance.
The already-controversial saga garnered even more attention that same month, when it was revealed that the couple’s exes, Andrew and Marilee, began dating each other after bonding over their alleged shared experiences with infidelity.
In Touch takes a look back at Amy and T.J.’s relationship timeline.

“I’m not sure we technically decided to run together,” Amy admitted to the outlet. “I pretty much announced to everyone that T.J. was going to run the half-marathon with me, and then publicly pressured him to join … and it worked!”
T.J. jokingly chimed in at the time that he was “still trying to figure out why [he was] running in this race.”

Podcast Partners
On December 5, 2023, the couple released the first episode of their podcast together, called “Amy and T.J,” during which they clarified their relationship timeline and denied cheating rumors.
“To be clear, we were outed as being in a relationship, but everyone else thought we were being outed as adulterers — being outed as cheating on our spouses — and it wasn’t the case,” T.J. explained. “[We] lost the jobs we love because we love each other.”

Partner Swap
The same week Amy and T.J.’s podcast was released, news broke that their exes, Andrew Shue and Marilee Fiebig, had been dating each other for six months — a bombshell the couple initially thought was a joke.
“No one saw this coming, especially not Amy and T.J., who absolutely thought they were being pranked,” a source told In Touch exclusively in December 2023, adding, “[Amy and T.J.] even looked around for the hidden cameras [when] they were told. They still don’t believe it.”
T.J. seemed eager to prove he and Amy weren’t bothered by the revelation, posting a PDA photo of him cuddling Amy to his Instagram Story with the caption, “Thank you all,” one day after the bombshell dropped.

Next Comes Marriage?
The couple revealed that marriage was “on the table” during the December 19, 2023, episode of their podcast, “Amy and T.J.”
“We did not enter this relationship for fun or for ‘Let’s see what happens.’ We entered this relationship because we intended on spending our lives together,” Amy told listeners, though she added that they weren’t “rushing” to tie the knot. “I can’t even explain why there’s this desire, but I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
T.J. returned the sentiment, joking that he wants to marry Amy because he’s “very sick of introducing a 50-year-old woman as [his] girlfriend,” saying the term “just sounds stupid” at their age.
On the same episode of the podcast, Amy and T.J. also confirmed they would be spending the holidays together.

After originally saying they would be spending the holidays together, T.J. and Amy celebrated Christmas apart, each with their own children.
T.J. had a holiday night in with his daughter, Sabine, who he shares with ex-wife Marilee. Meanwhile, Amy celebrated the holiday cooking at home with her two teenage daughters, Ava and Annalise, who she shares with ex-husband Tim McIntosh.
All seemed well in their relationship, though, as Amy posted a thank you message to T.J. for his present to her.
“Best gift ever! Thanks @TJHolmes,” Amy captioned her Instagram Story photo of an Elf movie trivia game.

The Price of Love
After joining TikTok, Amy posted a video in which she admitted there had been a “price to pay” for her decision to “live her truth” and pursue a relationship with T.J.
In her introductory video, Amy described herself as having a “former career in television” but said she had “chosen love in [her] life” — a path she said she was “very excited about.” She explained that she planned to use TikTok, along with her and T.J.’s podcast, to “take back [her] narrative” and reveal who the “real [her] is.”

In his own TikTok introduction video, T.J. explained how his life has changed since his relationship with Amy went public.
“I am a podcaster, a partner and a longtime broadcast journalist, and it’s the 25-plus year career in broadcast journalism that was upended about a year ago when some aspects of my personal life, including who I’m dating, became tabloid fodder,” he said in his January 17, 2024, video. He added that the public’s reaction to the news he was dating Amy, as well as his subsequent exit from GMA, resulted in a “year of hell” for him.
However, T.J. said his ability to live “authentically” with his “dearest Amy Robach” helped him through their trying times.
“She’s such a big part of it and such a big part of my day-to-day life,” T.J. gushed.

Still Together!
Amy and T.J. took to social media to deny rumors that they had split following a particularly raw episode of their “Amy and T.J.” podcast.
“We just wanted to check in and let you know that, despite what you’ve been hearing, we are still together,” T.J. said in an Instagram video shared by both him and Amy on January 24, 2024.
That same morning, the pair released an episode of their podcast during which they were brutally honest with each other about the problems in their seemingly perfect relationship. In the episode, Amy admitted that T.J. could be “moody” at times, and that he was not good at communicating his feelings to her.
“Yes, we like to show pictures of us smiling like everyone else and laughing on social media, but if we want to be real and we want to be transparent,” Amy added in the couple’s Instagram video following the show. She explained that they wanted to prove to listeners that their ups and downs are similar to those of “most relationships.”

Post-Podcast Concerns
During their January 25, 2024 episode of “Amy and T.J,” one day after they opened up about a disagreement they had behind closed doors, the couple addressed the topic of race. T.J. admitted he worried some listeners would cast a negative light on their interracial relationship.
“It is going to, I fear, be viewed as a Black man beating up on a white woman,” T.J. said, though he stressed that he was “obviously” not “yelling, screaming or doing anything” physical during his fight with Amy.
Amy said she was “shocked” at the idea that someone would negatively discuss the “racial element” of their partnership, telling T.J., “Race, the fact that you’re Black and I’m white, would’ve never crossed my mind.”

Empty Nest
During the February 13, 2024, episode of “Amy and T.J.,” the couple discussed “missing out on having kids” together.
The pair, who each have their own children from previous marriages, said they believed they had similar parenting styles.
“So yes, I have multiple times been a little sad that we did not come together at a time where we could have had that option,” Amy shared with T.J.

Point of No Return
T.J. once again spoke to Amy about the possibility of returning to Good Morning America after their firing on the February 15, 2024, episode of their podcast.

The Moment He Knew
T.J. also revealed the moment he knew he loved Amy during the February 15, 2024, episode of “Amy and T.J.”
“When I thought there was an issue, for me, was 2022, going into spring, certainly summer, but spring of 2022 is when I’d say,” T.J. told his girlfriend. However, he said they didn’t discuss their feelings for each other until “much later.”

Living Together
Amy and T.J. revealed they took a major step in their relationship by moving in together. During a September 2024 episode of their podcast, the couple explained that Amy moved in with T.J. after her daughter Ava moved into her apartment.
While they said that their living situation is currently a temporary arrangement, the pair revealed they weren’t sure when Amy would be able to move back to her apartment.
T.J. told their listeners that he and Amy had “enjoyed the time that we’ve had together.”
“It’s been a little different but I’ve liked it … where we know where we’re going to end up every night instead of having a plan,” he continued, adding that the experience was a “trial run.”
