GMA’s Lara Spencer Has Surgery on Both Feet and Is Forced to Wear 2 Boots: ‘A Little Groggy’

Good Morning America’s Lara Spencer is walking around with a new pair of boots — but it’s probably not what you think. The TV host revealed that she had two procedures done on both of her feet and is now on the mend.

“If I look a little groggy it’s thanks to this guy who just gave me a new pair of boots (frame 2-wish they were cowboy boots but that will come in about 6 weeks hopefully). My right foot was easy-just had plate removed from surgery last year,” she explained in an Instagram caption on Wednesday, December 11.

Lara, 55, included a photo posing with her surgeon, as well as a photo of both of her feet in the boots that she mentioned.

“The left is a bigger deal from a very old college diving injury,” she said of the surgery that was done on her left foot. “I was doing a reverse one and a half and hit the board, shattering toes and joints. Back then they said there was nothing you could do except tape it, let it heal, and live with the pain.”

Luckily for Lara, she was able to find a great medical team to help repair the injury.

“Today there are much better options, thanks to surgeons like Dr Marty O’Malley at HSS. These boots were made for walkin,” she concluded the caption.

In the comments section of the post, the TV personality received support from her followers amid her medical journey.

“Wow! How on earth do you wear heels all of the time @lara.spencer wishing you a speedy recovery!,” one person commented, while another said, “Yikes. You wear those heels effortlessly. At least, it seems that way.”

“Gosh, and the heels you wear and how active you are…heal swiftly!” another person said, as another wrote, “Sending so much love and quick recovery! 25 years ago before soulcycle began i was in a spinning class. the bike handlebars broke off and i broke my leg and foot. dr O’malley was my surgeon. he’s the best!!!!!!”

GMA fans might remember in January 2023, when Lara had foot surgery done and had to wear a boot on her foot. She also rode around the show’s set on a scooter.

“A torn plantar plate and ligament in my foot that’s been slowly getting worse and worse FINALLY fixed by the magnificent Dr. O’Malley at HSS today,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “Didn’t want to miss my daughter’s last soccer season or the holidays, so here we are! Rollin’ into 2023 like… well, I’m not exactly sure but it should be interesting at work!!!!!”

She was already back in the gym shortly after revealing the surgery, explaining how the injury changed up her fitness routine amid her recovery.

“I can’t put weight on my left leg for five more weeks if I am lucky and even then, will still be wearing this boot for another five BUT I can stay in shape in the meantime,” she explained in the caption of a workout video on January 11, 2023.
