Good Bones’ Karen E. Laine Buys New Home, Reveals Full-Time Law Job After Ending Show
Karen E. Laine has made a lot of changes in her life since season 8 of Good Bones aired its finale in October 2023, starting with her living situation and her job.
Karen, 62, shared a video on Instagram on January 17 saying that she bought a new “little home” in Greenfield, Indiana. This comes after she shockingly listed her newly renovated home in Wilmington, North Carolina, for sale.
The video featured Good Bones alum Cory Miller, whom Karen built a great friendship with outside of the HGTV show. Now, they’re ready to collaborate again to help turn her new Indiana house into a home.
“Thanks to @lcsheatingandcooling always being amazing and to @cory_miller30 for always being willing to saddle up for any shenanigans I have in store,” the DIY expert captioned the post.
“So I bought this house 10 days ago, and I moved half of my stuff here. I’ve got a bed. I’ve got a table. I’ve got a chair,” Karen explained in the video.
She said that she also moved in with her dog and cat.
“I got a real job in Greenfield, and I’m working full time, and I need to make this house everything it should be,” Karen continued. “Cory came out today because he’s going to help me make it my hopes and dreams.”
Fans saw Karen renovate the Wilmington home in a special shortened season of Good Bones in August 2024 with the intention of it being the place that she would move to after retiring. The lawyer put a lot of time and effort into making the space a colorful haven and a place where her grandkids would love to visit. But in the end, she realized that she might be spending her time traveling back and forth between Indiana and North Carolina a lot more than she originally thought.

“What I thought this house was going to be for me has completely changed because I bought this house to move here, and retire here and live here but I realized I would miss my family too much,” Karen said during one episode of the special season. “I can’t live away from that, so its shifted a little for me to where this is going to be a place I visit with regularity, but maybe I can get some of the grandkids on an airplane and we spend a weekend together and we go to the beach; that would be the best of both worlds.”
Many were shocked when news broke in October 2024 that the property was put on the market for $500,000, per a Zillow listing.
In the comments section of Karen’s recent Instagram post, one fan asked her why she put the Wilmington home on the market.
“Five grandkids in Indy that weren’t there when I bought the Wilmington house tipped the scales a different direction,” she said. “The Wilmington house is for sale and until it sells, I visit there regularly.”
Fans were also curious about Karen’s new full-time job in Indiana.
“Congrats on your new home and job in Greenfield. Is your job related to law or home fixer uppers or??” one person asked the HGTV alum, to which Karen responded, “Law.”
Another person asked, “What is your full time job?” and Karen responded, “Deputy prosecutor.”
