A new look! Helen Mirren turned heads at the Cannes Film Festival, as she unveiled her bold pink hairdo.

The 73-year-old hit the red carpet on Saturday, May 18, for The Best Years of a Life premiere at the 72nd annual event. And while many stars attended, it was the actress’ new hairdo that had everyone’s attention. Helen showed up in a champagne gold colored gown, matched with some diamond pendant earrings.

The Oscar winner has had no problem at all trying new thing in her later years — she once revealed she got eyebrow tattoos. “I’ll tell you what I had done recently, which I love — I got my eyebrows tattooed. I was fed up of my brows barely being there and when one of my girlfriends got it done, I thought that they looked great,” she told Daily Mail. ”

“They’re very lightly and delicately done — but it means that when I get up in the morning and I have no make-up on, at least I have eyebrows. It’s made a huge difference,” she added.

The Red actress is well known for her great looks at her age, but she did once confess she hated being a certain type of sexy in her twenties. “It was the time of [model] Twiggy, and I did not look like a twig. My cheeks were too fat, legs were too short, breasts too big,” she told Allure.

However, while she fell into the category of being conventionally “sexy,” she “hated” [it] at the time because it was not fashionable. “You had to be thin and have a cigarette and only wear black. And I just never fit into that look,” she added.

The actress’ most notable role is arguably Queen Elizabeth in The Queen. Helen once revealed that Prince Harry mentioned the role. “I think Harry once at an awards ceremony said, ‘And granny is here’ and I was rather insulted by that. I mean, really!” she recalled on Good Morning Britain.

During the same interview, Helen did reveal if the Queen’s son, Prince Charles, has ever brought up that she played his mother. “No that’s never mentioned … he’s too tactful,” she said.

Not only did Helen mention Harry, 34, and his father, 70, but she also had nothing but kind words for the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.

“I think right from the moment that relationship was revealed she conducted herself with incredible self-restraint, elegance, discipline and simplicity and humanity,” Helen said. “I was an admirer … it’s an incredibly difficult life to lead, talk about pressure. I think she is doing it with great elegance.”
