Home Alone director Chris Columbus created this iconic role solely for the actor, but still auditioned more than 100 other candidates for the part!

Marv didn't actually scream when the spider was on his face

Yes, that spider was real, but the scream wasn't. According to Mental Floss, to avoid scaring the spider away, Daniel Stern had to record the scream in another take and then fake the mouth movement while the insect was on his face. The sound was added into the main scene later.

Home Alone drew inspiration from Uncle Buck

John Hughes, the filmmaker behind Home Alone, drew inspiration for the movie during the filming of 1989's Uncle Buck. In a scene during that film, Macaulay Culkin hilariously interrogates a potential babysitter through the mail slot on the front door. Similarly, he harasses Marv in Home Alone, but this time it was through the doggy door.
