Hugh and Sutton were seen publicly together a few times prior to the start of their romantic relationship.

In 2008, Hugh was photographed with Sutton backstage after he attended a performance of Shrek: The Musical, in which the Bunheads actress starred as Princess Fiona. Six years later, at the 2014 Tony Awards, the pair danced briefly together in the audience.

In 2019, it was announced that Hugh had been cast as Professor Harold Hill and Sutton earned the role of Marian Paroo in the revival of The Music Man. Rehearsals began in late 2021 and the duo hit the red carpet for opening night in February 2022.

Later that year, Sutton gushed Hugh was an “incredibly kind” and “generous” man with an “impeccable reputation” in the business.

“He disarms everyone, and he doesn’t make anything about him,” she told Vogue of their professional relationship. “And now he’s become one of my best friends.”

Hugh and Deborra-Lee Furness confirmed their split after 27 years of marriage in September 2023. They share two kids, son Oscar and daughter Ava.

A few days later, they were seen sharing a sweet kiss while stopping for In-N-Out in San Fernando, California.
