Netflix Basically Confirmed It Won’t Be Picking up ‘Roseanne’ With One Sassy Tweet

After ABC canceled the Roseanne reboot due to a very racist tweet from the show's star Roseanne Barr, the few remaining fans of the sitcom — yes, there are still some left — have been campaigning for a new home for the sitcom. And while rumors swirled that Netflix was possibly picking up Roseanne, the streaming service just shut that down with one sassy tweet.

Comparing Roseanne to their slightly more diverse series, One Day at a Time, Netflix urged viewers to forget about the Conners and say hello to the Alvarez family. "Reminder: @OneDayAtATime is a sitcom about a tight-knit, working class family that tackles extremely topical social issues in a smart and innovative way. Ya know, if you’re suddenly looking for a show like that…," Netflix's official Twitter account shared on Wednesday, May 30.

On Monday, Roseanne deleted a racist tweet comparing President Barack Obama's senior advisor Valerie Jarrett to a Planet of the Apes character, but the damage was already done. ABC quickly canceled the reboot, which had just been renewed for a Season 2. "Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant, and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show," ABC President Channing Dungey said in a statement.

Roseanne, 65, also apologized for her words, and blamed the entire incident on the sleeping drug Ambien. "Don’t feel sorry for me, guys!! I just want to apologize to the hundreds of people, and wonderful writers (all liberal) and talented actors who lost their jobs on my show due to my stupid tweet," she wrote. "Guys I did something unforgivable so do not defend me. It was 2 in the morning and I was Ambien tweeting — it was Memorial Day too — I went [too] far and do not want it defended. It was egregious Indefensible [sic]. I made a mistake I wish I hadn’t but… don’t defend it please."

She continued, "Hey guys, don't defend me, it's sweet of you 2 try, but… losing my show is 0 compared 2 being labeled a racist over one tweet — that I regret even more." So, sorry not sorry, it looks like this is it for both Roseannes.
