Jane Fonda Just Proved She’s the Best by Raising $1.3 Million for Charity on 80th Birthday
Well, Jane Fonda is clearly a superstar. The iconic actress has geared up for her milestone 80th birthday in the sweetest way — she has raised money for charity! And when we say money, we mean a whopping $1.3 million for GCAPP. So impressive!
Even though Jane’s special day isn’t until Dec. 21, the Grace & Frankie star hosted an event called “Eight Decades of Jane” (creative, right?) for her charity on Saturday, Dec. 9 in Atlanta. The organization focuses on preventing teen pregnancy, healthy teen relationships, and nutrition. The star-studded event featured Rosanna Arquette, Carole King, James Taylor, and Jane’s ex-husband, Ted Turner, who all got to watch her blow out her birthday cake candles.
It’s no surprise Jane holds this charity near and dear to her heart. In a previous interview, she opened up about how she was sexually abused and raped as a child. “To show you the extent to which a patriarchy takes a toll on females; I’ve been raped, I’ve been sexually abused as a child and I’ve been fired because I wouldn’t sleep with my boss and I always thought it was my fault; that I didn’t do or say the right thing,” she once shared.
Jane added, “I know young girls who’ve been raped and didn’t even know it was rape. They think, ‘It must have been because I said no the wrong way,'” she continued. “One of the great things the women’s movement has done is to make us realize that [rape and abuse is] not our fault. We were violated and it’s not right.”
The mom-of-three previously opened up about rejuvenating her life after 60, and now that she’s nearly 80, she seems better and happier than ever! “We all wonder what, if anything, we’re going to leave behind. My ability to understand what my life means — to put it in a way that can be meaningful to other people — that’s the gift I would leave behind. It’s the strangeness of my life that is the most important thing about me, more than any particular part of my work,” Jane previously said. You go, girl!
