Jenna Bush Hager ‘Impressed at How Down-to-Earth’ Scarlett Johansson Was While Cohosting ‘Today’
Scarlett Johansson brought a breath of fresh air on Today when she cohosted the show’s fourth hour with Jenna Bush Hager last month. Sources say they got along great and will be hanging out off camera, too.
“They had a wonderful time getting to know each other, there was no awkwardness on or off camera that anyone could see,” an insider exclusively tells Closer. “Jenna was a gracious host, and equally impressed at how down-to-earth Scarlett was. Nothing phony or too ‘Hollywood’ about her. People thought Jenna might be intimidated but she wasn’t.”
Scarlett, 40, served as a celebrity guest cohost on Today With Jenna & Friends during the week of January 21 after Hoda Kotb’s departure from the program. Her husband, Colin Jost, also made a special appearance on the show.
“On the show, Jenna let Scarlett speak as long as she wanted and didn’t cut in as she was prone to do with Hoda,” the insider adds. “They had a blast comparing mommy notes and bonded over kids and their love of beer and are making plans to keep in touch and meet up for a pint or two in the near future.”
Fans were delighted to see Scarlett and Jenna, 43, sharing the cohosting duties, and many made a case to make the Avengers actress a permanent cohost on the show.
“I NEEEEEEED Scarlett on my morning tv with Jenna. Please make this a permanent thing!” one person commented on a January 22 Instagram post on the official Today With Jenna & Friends account.
“Scarlett has been my MOST favorite ‘friend’ so far,” another viewer said. “She’s the most natural and seems the least forced. Last week was a little chaotic and I can’t remember who the cohost was but someone got shushed. It was too much.”
“Jenna & Scarlet should be a thing. You’re both awesome together and it looks like you need each other. I hope it works out if that is what’s to be,” another viewer wrote.
In fact, Jenna and Scarlett’s episodes of Today were so great, they decided to commemorate the experience by getting their ears pierced together on camera! Jenna and
Scarlett held hands as two professional piercers came out and pierced their ears simultaneously as they sat in the chairs at the news desk.
“We were like, ‘Let’s just get our ears pierced together!’” the Black Widow actress told Today viewers during the January 23 episode of the show. “So, we have committed to that. Today we’re doing it.”
“I have a lot of piercings,” Scarlett said. “When I was a kid, I just was into piercings and then I had my eyebrow pierced, my septum, my everything. It was just a thing. And so I think it’s been a minute since I got a piercing, so I’m excited to do it with you.”
During the episode, Scarlett gushed that she had so much fun cohosting the talk show with Jenna.
“This is my dream, dream job,” she said. “It’s my favorite job I’ve ever had! It really is.”
