Jenna Johnson and Val Chmerkovskiy’s Relationship Timeline: From the ‘DWTS’ Dance Floor to ‘I Do’

2015

Fans started speculating that Jenna and Val were dating when the two were spotted getting cozy during Dancing With the Stars rehearsals. At the time, the handsome hunk was photographed planting a kiss on his gal’s check. Despite the sweet moment, Jenna and Val didn’t confirm the status of their romance.

February 2016

In early 2016, the pair further sparked romance rumors after they enjoyed a night out in West Hollywood in February, E! News reported at the time. However, Val started dating Amber Rose in late 2016. The Ukrainian-American dancer and the model were briefly together until 2017.

June 2017

Shortly after Val called it quits with Amber, he rekindled his relationship with Jenna. The adorable lovebirds confirmed their romance when they shared a bunch of amorous snapshots during a romantic trip to Europe together in June 2017. They then attended Val’s brother Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s wedding to his wife, Peta Murgatroyd, the following month in July.

June 2018

After years of being linked together, Val and Jenna got engaged during a luxurious trip to Italy in June 2018. The brunette beauty announced her beau asked for her hand in marriage with a heartwarming post via Instagram.

“I knew the moment I met you, you were the man of my dreams and I wanted to be with you forever,” the beautiful bride sweetly wrote. “Thank you for making my fairytale come true today! Cannot believe I get to call you my fiancé!”

Val also marveled over the exciting moment on social media, writing, “I can’t wait to make you my wife.”

April 2019

The dancing duo made their love official when they tied the knot in Los Angeles in April 2019. Jenna and Val said “I do” at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.

“Mr. & Mrs. Chmerkovskiy,” the proud hubby wrote next to a pic of the newlyweds on their special day. Jenna echoed the same sentiment as she uploaded a photo of them kissing in their wedding ensembles. “The GREATEST day of OUR lives!” she gushed.

July 2019

Two months later, the pair kept their wedding bliss going as they held a second ceremony in Jenna’s native Utah in July 2019.

“Round two of wedding celebrations here in my hometown. We had every single member of my immediate family (22 of us) together for the first time in two years, the entire Chmerkovskiy family made the trip out to Utah and all my neighbors and friends I grew with,” she wrote on Instagram. “I don’t think I have stopped smiling from ear to ear.”

October 2020

Although Jenna and Val have busy careers as dancers on DWTS, they were already thinking about having kids after they wed. The twosome said they “planned” to start their family as soon as the timing was right.

“We spoke about it even before we were married, and [having children is] something we both hold dear,” Val exclusively told Closer Weekly in October 2020. “Family is a huge priority for us outside of our careers. It’s bigger than everything.”

Jenna noted becoming a loving mom and dad has “always been a part” of their plan. “When is it going to happen?” she added. “We’ll see.”

May 2021

Jenna and Val went on a Hawaiian getaway with her family. The two cuddled on the beach in this sweet photo. She captioned it, “We haven’t been to Hawaii as a family since I was 16. I can’t tell you how meaningful it is to be here with my husband and ALL 26 of my family members … 6 in-laws and 12 grand babies now included. My heart is so full! Aloha.”

August 2021

Jenna and Val posed in New York City after his successful Maks and Val Tour performance. She gushed in the caption, “Never have I seen you in this form of ARTISTRY. I have always been your number one fan but last night you took my breathe away with your dancing, your ACTING, your comedic timing, your presence, your story telling, and everything in between. My love, your star is shining brighter than ever. I am so proud of you.”

July 2022

In July 2022, Jenna and Val announced they were expecting their first child together.

“After two years of infertility, and hundreds of negative tests after negative tests, it was heart wrenching at times to stay optimistic and made me question whether I would ever have this opportunity,” she said. “I will go into more depth about our fertility journey a little later on, but if any of you out there are struggling to get pregnant, suffering from infertility, or mourning a pregnancy loss… don’t lose HOPE.”

January 2023

The happy couple announced the arrival of their adorable son, Rome, in January 2023. She wrote on Instagram that their “world is forever changed.”

January 2024

Jenna reflected on motherhood while on the DWTS tour.

“Selfishly as a performer I’ve needed this past month in a half more than I can express. Since becoming a mother (truly the greatest role I’ve ever dreamed of) I’ve felt like I lost my identity as an artist,” she wrote on Instagram. “I’ve felt guilty and torn between being the best mom possible and feeling fulfilled as a performer. I didn’t think I was allowed to have both … until this experience rehearsing for and now dancing on tour. I’ve never been more exhausted waking up at 7am with Rome on the bus, being mommy until I need to start getting ready, finishing the show at 10:30pm, and going to bed on average around 1:30am/2am every night. It’s drained me but it’s brought me an insane amount of happiness that gets me choked up if I think about it long enough.”

“I’ve realized that you can do it all. Mama’s out there… don’t give up on your dreams!! It’s a lot of work and you might not get as much sleep as you’d hope for, but showing up for your BABY and YOURSELF is the most rewarding feeling,” she added. “I’ve fallen in love with dance even more than I thought was possible these past couple of weeks and can’t believe I get to dance for all of you each night. Thank you for making my heart so happy!!”
