Former President Jimmy Carter and Wife Rosalynn Always Prioritized Their Family: Meet Their Kids

John “Jack” Carter

Jack followed his father’s career path and became a politician. He ran for the U.S. Senate in 2006. In addition to establishing a career in politics, the Navy veteran became a dad. He welcomed two children, Jason and Sarah Carter, with his first wife, Juliet “Judy” Langford Carter. He became a stepdad to his second wife Elizabeth Brasfield’s two kids, John Chuldenko and Sarah Chuldenko Reynolds.

James “Chip” Carter

Chip attended Georgia Southwestern College and worked at his family’s peanut warehouse ahead of his father’s presidency. He lived in the White House for a short time with his first wife, Caron Griffin, and their son, James Earl IV. He later welcomed a daughter, Margaret Alicia, with his second wife, Ginger Hodges. Chip is currently married to his third wife, Becky Payne.

After his father’s death, Chip shared a statement about his father’s human rights activism.

“My brothers, sister, and I shared him with the rest of the world through these common beliefs,” the statement said. “The world is our family because of the way he brought people together, and we thank you for honoring his memory by continuing to live these shared beliefs.”

Donnell “Jeff” Carter

Jeff is a cofounder of Computer Mapping Consultants, according to Business Insider. He and his late wife, Annette, lived in the White House during Jimmy’s presidency. The pair met while attending Georgia Southwestern University. 

They welcomed three children together, sons Joshua, Jeremy and James. Jeremy died in 2015 at the age of 28. Annette died in 2021 at the age of 68. 

Amy Carter

Amy was 9 years old when her family moved to the White House. She became a political activist in her adult years. In 1995, she illustrated her father’s first children’s book called The Little Baby Snoogle-Fleejer. The following year, she married James Gregory Wentzel. They welcomed son Hugo James Wentzel in 1999. She is also a mom to son Errol Carter Kelly, whom she welcomed with second husband Jay Kelly.
