Kathleen Turner Is Happy Being Single at Age 64: ‘I’m Not Dating at the Moment’
After she became a star in 1981’s Body Heat, Warren Beatty, Jack Nicholson and Michael Douglas made a bet about who could bed Kathleen Turner first — but she turned them all down. Nearly 40 years later, the actress is still living life on her own terms. “A lot of older women feel that we’re not taken as seriously as many men,” she has said. “But I have found that [life] is mostly exciting.”
Experience has taught Kathleen, 64, that she doesn’t need a man. “I’m not dating at the moment,” said the divorced star, who has one child, Rachel Ann Weiss, 31. “The only interesting men I’m running into are only interesting for a short while. Then they seem to need to be taken care of. That’s the last thing I need. I’ve been there, done that.”
Instead, she puts her passions elsewhere. “I do master classes at universities,” she said. “And I love directing. This past year doing a full-length cabaret for the first time was a whole new area to explore.” She’s even learned to live with rheumatoid arthritis. “There will come a time when I may not physically be able to do eight shows a week,” she said. “Fine. I will teach more. Write more books.”
Kathleen, who clearly likes herself at this age, is proud that she never tried to cling to her youth through surgery. “Faye Dunaway once told me that if I did not start plastic surgery by the time I was 40 it would be too late. And I said, ‘Well, fine, I won’t do it then,'” she said, “At the moment, I think I’m aging rather well.”
