She just had to breakaway. Kelly Clarkson opened up in a new interview about her decision to join The Voice as a coach, instead of joining the judges’ panel on ABC’s upcoming reboot of American Idol — the show that made her famous.

“I've been in talks with The Voice about doing stuff for years,” Kelly, 35, told Entertainment Tonight on Thursday, Sept. 21. “It's a family decision too, for us. Like, my husband [Brandon Blackstock] manages Blake [Shelton] so we're all in one place and it's going to be good. And I'm excited, y’all.” See what else she had to say in the video below!

Though the “Love So Soft” singer isn’t coming back to American Idol, Ryan Seacrest, her longtime pal and former host of the singing competition, has officially signed on to reprise his role. Still, there are no bad vibes between the two. "I had to interview with Ryan Seacrest recently, it was so weird," Kelly said. "We've never been on, like, opposing networks and so it was funny. We had a good laugh about it.”

Kelly will star on Season 14 of The Voice (set to premiere in February 2018) alongside fellow Idol alum Jennifer Hudson. "I love her. I love, first of all, just the confidence that she has, and I had so much fun with her,” Kelly gushed, adding that she believes she and J-Hud, 36, have a lot to offer as coaches.

"I think there is a difference being one of the contestants previously on a show like this," Kelly — who won American Idol during its inaugural season in 2002 — noted. "I think that does carry weight.”

Kelly’s eighth studio album, Meaning of Life, is available everywhere October 27.
