Kris Kristofferson’s ‘Love Confessions’ Revealed in His Diary: It Will ‘Make a Lot of People Blush’
Kris Kristofferson was reminiscent during the last years of his life and kept a diary detailing all his wild romances and flings, sources exclusively tell Closer.
“Kris wrote everything down,” says an insider, including his “thoughts” and “feelings about everyone he met who made an impression on him — especially the ladies in his life, of which there were many. All his love confessions are there, and word is it’s quite detailed.”
The Rhodes scholar and military vet, who died on September 28 at age 88, was married three times in his life and also had a string of other high-profile relationships.
In 1961, he married his longtime girlfriend Fran Beer, but they divorced in 1969. Following his first marriage, he briefly dated Janis Joplin before her death in October 1970. His second marriage was to singer Rita Coolidge in 1973, but they eventually divorced in 1980. In 1983, he married Lisa Meyers, and they remained together until his death.
At one time, he also dated his A Star Is Born costar Barbra Streisand.
“It’s no secret he had a fling with Barbra Streisand before he dove into a relationship with Rita Coolidge,” the source says. “And there might have been some overlapping there, at least in the beginning.”
After all, the source continues, “Kris was a hellraiser in his earlier years. His marriage to Rita was turbulent for many years until their divorce. He and Rita became better friends, though, after the split.”
Kris, who was very open about struggling with alcohol before getting sober, also looked back on dark times in his life.

“He wrote about regrets, too,” the source says. “He conquered his booze demons for the sake of his daughter and then met the love of his life, Lisa. He was a complicated and sometimes tortured soul, and he had a lot of secrets. Kris may have known the end was near and wanted to clear his conscience. His diary says it all.”
Despite the juicy details, “His family doesn’t have plans to publish the diary,” the source says. “But if they decide to do it down the road, the contents are likely to make a lot of people blush.”
Kris remained active into his 80s — performing his last concert at 84 — before announcing his retirement in 2021.
The performer enjoyed spending time at his Maui, Hawaii, home with his wife of 41 years, Lisa, and their children and grandkids.
“I’ve had a life of all kinds of experiences — most of them good,” said Kris, who lived by a simple rule: “Tell the truth. Sing with passion. Work with laughter. Love with heart. ‘Cause that’s all that matters in the end.”
Many celebrities paid tribute to the actor following his death, with his Star Is Born costar saying that he was “something special.”
Barbra explained, “In the movie, Kris and I sang the song I’d written for the film’s main love theme, ‘Evergreen.’ For my latest concert in 2019 at London’s Hyde Park, I asked Kris to join me on-stage to sing our other A Star Is Born duet, ‘Lost Inside Of You.’ He was as charming as ever, and the audience showered him with applause. It was a joy seeing him receive the recognition and love he so richly deserved. My thoughts go to Kris’ wife, Lisa who I know supported him in every way possible.”
