Luke Perry’s Family Had to Make the ‘Devastating’ Decision to Pull Him Off Life Support (Report)

The world lost Luke Perry earlier this week and already we’re getting more insight into the Hollywood heartthrob’s final days. According to a new report, the Riverdale star “wasn’t doing well” when he was rushed to the hospital after suffering a massive stroke on February 27 and simply never bounced back.

“Luke’s loved ones were hoping they’d pull him out of it after 48 hours or so,” a source told Us Weekly about how the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum was put under in the hopes that it would allow his brain time to heal. “But he never recovered. It was devastating.”

Five days later, on March 4, the family had to make the heartbreaking decision to pull Luke off life support. He died soon after at the age of 52. In a statement from the actor’s rep, Luke was surrounded by those nearest and dearest — including son Jack, 21, daughter Sophie, 18, fiancée Wendy Madison Bauer and ex-wife Rachel “Minnie” Sharp — as well as other family members and friends.

Since news broke of his passing, Luke’s celebrity pals have been paying tribute to him. One that really stood out was from fellow 90210 costar Shannen Doherty, who wrote that she will always remember the “special kind of love” that existed between her and Luke — from when they were on the iconic ’90s series together to their recently-rekindled friendship.

On top of that, Luke’s daughter also spoke out beautifully about the tragic turn of events. “I’m not really sure what to say or do in this situation, it’s something you aren’t ever given a lesson on how to handle, especially when it’s all happening in the public eye,” Sophie wrote. “So bear with me and know that I am grateful for all the love. Just, being grateful quietly.”

Our thoughts continue to be with everyone connected to Luke during this extremely difficult time.
