‘Mad About You’ Revival Starring Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt Gets a Premiere Date

When the reboots of Roseanne and Will & Grace hit so strong a few seasons back, one of the other Classic TV shows rumored to be returning was Mad About You, starring Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt. Well, it’s just about here with Spectrum Originals announcing premiere date for the series, which features co-creator Peter Tolan as showrunner.

“The Buchmans are back,” Spectrum announces in a statement. “Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt reprise their roles in the limited event series on Wednesday, November 20, when the first six episodes drop ad-free exclusively on Spectrum’s On Demand platform. The final six episodes will release on Wednesday, December 18. The series will explore the fertile ground of modern marriage through the eyes of the Buchmans as newly minted empty-nesters after dropping their unpredictable, hard-to-control daughter Mabel (Abby Quinn) off at college.”

The original ’90s series followed the first few years of marriage between Paul and Jamie Buchman (Paul and Helen). As noted, this new version goes forward in time to the couple entering the next phase of their lives and marriage.

In a joint statement, Paul and Helen offer, “We are so excited to finally be doing this and thrilled to have Peter Tolan as our fearless captain. We promise you the same funny and heartwarming show — as soon as we can remember what’s funny about being older. It’s going to be great!”

Back in 2017, Paul previously hinted at a possible revival to People, “For years I would’ve said, ‘Absolutely no. We never would do it,’ because I was very proud of how we ended it really well. We even told the future a little bit, so our thinking at the time was, ‘Let’s make sure we never get tempted to come back. Let’s tell them what happens.’ Now, because everybody’s talking about it, I started to think, ‘Maybe if there’s a story we could come up with.’ To me, it’s interesting when I see my kids are growing and leaving the house. It’s like, ‘Oh.’ It’s like that moment when you get married. It’s like we’re in a new world that we don’t know the rules of.”

Also returning from the original are John Pankow as Paul’s cousin (and probably best friend, next to Jaime, of course), Ira Buchman. Additionally, Richard Kind is back as Dr. Mark Devanow.

As to the new version, Katherine Pope, Head of Original Content, enthuses, “We are beyond thrilled to team up with Sony Pictures Television to give Mad About You an exclusive home at Spectrum Originals. Two decades ago, fans fell in love with this show, and this time will be no different as Paul, Helen and Peter explore modern marriage through the eyes of two people who have just become empty-nesters. We can’t wait for everyone to fall in love with the Buchmans all over again. ”

Frankly, we never stopped!
