Matt Lauer Deletes Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram Following Recent ‘Today’ Firing

After promptly getting fired from the Today show following extensive allegations of sexual harassment and abuse, Matt Lauer has deleted all of his social media accounts. The former co-host of the morning news show deactivated his Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook accounts after receiving major backlash from fans and major celebrities online.

The former anchor addressed the allegations in a statement explaining, “As I am writing this I realize the depth of the damage and disappointment I have left behind at home and at NBC. Some of what is being said about me is untrue or mischaracterized, but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed.”

Since his departure, Matt’s co-stars and friends have spoken out about his shocking NBC exit. His co-anchor, Savannah Guthrie, and Hoda Kotb were the first to break the disturbing news on Wednesday, Nov. 29’s Today broadcast.

“This is a sad morning for us at Today show and at NBC News. Just moments ago, NBC chairman Andy Lack sent the following note to our organization: ‘On Monday night, we received a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer. It represented, after serious review, a clear violation of our company’s standards. As a result, we’ve decided to terminate his employment. While it is the first complaint about his behavior in the over twenty years he’s been at NBC News, we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident,'” Savannah read.

We’re unsure what the next steps will be for Matt, but for now, he is in the dark since he no longer is employed or active online. Hopefully, he will receive the help he needs.

He continued in his statement, “I regret that my shame is now shared by the people I cherish dearly. Repairing the damage will take a lot of time and soul searching and I’m committed to beginning that effort. It is now my full time job. The last two days have forced me to take a very hard look at my own troubling flaws. It’s been humbling. I am blessed to be surrounded by the people I love. I thank them for their patience and grace.”
