Meghan Markle ‘Doesn’t Regret’ Throwing a Lavish Baby Shower in New York City Despite ‘So Much Backlash’
Just four months after Meghan Markle made headlines for that star-studded baby shower in New York City, a source close to the royal family reveals that the Duchess of Sussex isn’t worried about what critics have said.
“She doesn’t regret the baby shower in New York City that got so much backlash,” an insider recently dished to Us Weekly about her festivities. “She doesn’t regret celebrating her baby or doing it in New York City.”
Prior to welcoming her first royal son with Prince Harry, the 37-year-old beauty threw a multi-day rendezvous in the Big Apple in February. When news broke of Meg’s over the top celebration, royals fans were confused how her baby shower didn’t break royal code.
The royal source stated that although the former Suits actress — who became mom of Archie Harrison on May 6 — didn’t receive a “scolding” for her stateside soiree, she was informed that baby showers aren’t typically the norm for royal family members.
Queen Elizabeth‘s former press spokesperson, Dickie Arbiter, previously echoed a similar sentiment about Meghan’s highly publicized party at The Mark Hotel. “Baby showers, it’s very much an American thing,” he said of the high-profile party that featured some of Meg’s famous friends, including Serena Williams, Jessica Mulroney, Amal Clooney and Abigail Spencer. “We don’t do it here in the U.K. It was a bit over the top in terms of expense and the way she got there.”
Even though Meg knew she would get some backlash for throwing a baby shower in her native United States, the first source explained that she is still trying to get used to living across the pond. “It’s hard for Meghan in London because the press is so vicious to her there,” added the insider. “This is her life every day. But her mentality is like, well if this is what it’s going to be like, I’m going to do what I want to do. I won’t play by these rules.”
