Palace Staff Reportedly Calls Meghan Markle ‘Di 2’ Because She Reminds Them Of Princess Diana

What a compliment! Palace staffers have reportedly started calling Meghan Markle “Di 2” because she reminds them so much of the late Princess Diana, according to a new report. “I’ve heard the Duchess is referred to as ‘Di 2,’ because of the similarities to [Prince] Harry’s mother. It’s meant affectionately, and I think it’s quite true — they are rather alike,” a source close to the royal household recently told Vanity Fair.

Royal photographer Mark Stewart also told the outlet that Meghan, 37, often reminds him of Diana, who tragically passed away at age 36 in an August 1997 car crash. “I’m often reminded of Diana when I photograph Meghan. Their wardrobes are quite similar; Meghan loves great tailoring and block color, just like Diana did. I remember photographing Diana in Japan when she stepped out in a red and white spotted outfit. Meghan’s wardrobe choices on this tour really remind me of Diana’s, like the red dress she wore when she arrived in Tonga. It was pure Diana, honoring the national colors of the island before Meghan had even said a word,” Stewart said.

“I don’t think we’ve seen a royal like Diana until now. Meghan has the confidence in front of the camera that Diana had, and that same love of fashion and top-end designers,” Stewart continued. “Diana loved Versace; Meghan loves Givenchy. Their style is quite similar: classic, elegant, and with lots of block colors.”

“It’s not just her clothes. The way Meghan is with people reminds me of Diana. The way she bends down to interact with children, there’s a natural empathy and humanitarianism. The way she seeks out the cameras and actually makes eye contact. She’s terrific — just like Diana was,” Stewart noted of Meghan’s actions on her first royal tour with husband Harry, 34.

This interestingly isn’t the first time royal fans have compared the former Suits actress to her late mother-in-law. In royal biographer Andrew Morton’s book, Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, the author claimed that the Duchess of Sussex has always viewed Diana “as a role model” and “was intrigued by Diana not just for her style but also for her independent humanitarian mission.”

And, according to one of Meghan’s childhood friends, the royal is eager to be “Princess Diana 2.0” for the British people. “She was always fascinated by the royal family. She wants to be Princess Diana 2.0. She will play her role ably,” Ninaki Priddy told the Daily Mail in a past interview.
