Meghan Markle's Uncle Michael Markle Wanted to Walk Her Down the Aisle

Though it’s already been a few months since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s royal wedding took place, many of the Duchess of Sussex’s extended family members are seemingly still upset about not scoring an invite to the coveted event.

During a new interview with The Mirror, Meghan’s uncle Michael Markle said that he’s hurt that he wasn’t able to see his niece marry the love of her life at Windsor Castle. “I thought I would,” he shared. “But anyhow, I didn’t hear from her.”

Michael added that he would have gladly filled in for Meghan’s dad, Thomas Markle — who unfortunately feill ill before the wedding — to walk Meg down the aisle but his offer was snubbed by the royal family.

“Yes I would have done it,” Michael revealed. “I don’t know how much the royal family had influence on her or not. They didn’t accept anyone else so they couldn’t make an exception for me.”

Since Thomas was not able to make it to the wedding, Meghan ultimately asked Harry’s father, Prince Charles, to walk her down the aisle instead and he gladly accepted the honor. Kensington Palace announced the exciting news of Charles’ special role on Twitter one day before Meghan was set to put on her wedding dress.

“Ms. Markle has asked his Royal Highness the Prince of Wales to accompany her down the aisle of the Quire of St. George’s Chapel on her Wedding Day. The Prince of Wales is pleased to be able to welcome Ms. Markle to the royal family in this way,” the statement read.

Even though it was last minute, a source previously told People that Meghan couldn’t think of anyone better to accompany her to the altar than Charles himself. “It was Meghan’s wish and she is grateful for the Prince of Wales to be doing it,” the source revealed. Before her wedding, Megan’s uncle Michael said, “I don’t understand why [Meghan’s] been so indifferent towards me. It’s uncalled for. I helped her out and I didn’t ask for anything in return.”
