Megyn Kelly’s Fox News Gig Was Taken Over by Friend Tucker Carlson After Her Departure
When she left Fox News for NBC earlier this year, TV host Megyn Kelly was replaced by her friend, Tucker Carlson, on the popular network. Megyn announced her Fox News departure in January after a rocky year with the cable news channel. The previous summer, she joined other women in accusing the network’s then-CEO, Roger Ailes, of sexual harassment. Her move to NBC News likely seemed like a fresh start — and a high-profile career move, since she’d be hosting a daytime news show and a Sunday newsmagazine. Those shows turned out to be Sunday Night With Megyn Kelly and Megyn Kelly Today, both of which are now unfortunately struggling in ratings.
In the wake of Megyn’s exit, Fox News gave her gig to Tucker, a right-wing commentator whose show, Tucker Carlson Tonight, had debuted just two months prior in the 7 p.m. slot and had already gotten solid ratings. Viewers had “overwhelmingly responded” to the new show, the network said in a statement. “In less than two months, Tucker has taken cable news by storm.”
Since Megyn’s departure, the network has additionally added two new primetime programs to their show lineup — The Ingraham Angle, hosted by Laura Ingraham, and FOX News @ Night, anchored by Shannon Bream. The channel’s other primetime series currently include The Story with Martha MacCallum and Hannity with Tucker’s show, Tucker Carlson Tonight, airing each evening at 8/7c. Following her Fox News exit, Megyn endorsed her successor and friend, Tucker. “This is a great decision by [Fox News Channel],” she tweeted at the time. “I will be cheering him on!”
