‘Megyn Kelly Today’ Is Reportedly Finally “Gaining Momentum” as More Viewers Tune In
Finally! Nearly a year after Megyn Kelly Today premiered on NBC in September 2017, the show is now reportedly starting to have a more steady viewership. According to recent TV data provided by Nielson, Megyn Kelly‘s numbers have increased by one percent from last year and five percent from last week.
Although these are far from record-breaking numbers, a source told Page Six that NBC executives are seeing this as a “positive sign,” and are happy that Megyn’s eponymous program is finally “gaining momentum” with fans.
A network insider previously told Life & Style that Megyn Kelly Today was struggling to get high ratings due to Megyn’s impersonable attitude. “Megyn just doesn’t come across to the viewers as authentic,” the source said.
Since Megyn started at NBC, she has also been blamed for the Today show’s struggling viewership. “Megyn’s ratings are bringing down the entire brand,” another insider told the magazine and a third added, “Megyn is downright antisocial, standoffish, and arrogant. Her whole team, from producers on down to assistants, have established a reign of terror from day one. They’ve turned the workplace into a Today show hell.”
Megyn’s ratings were once so low that the second insider told Life & Style that the TV star’s colleagues were being pressured to be on her show to help increase her viewership. “[One show executive] has been hearing complaints from Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, and Al Roker because of their ongoing appearances on Megyn’s show. But they have no choice but to do it,” the source said (at the time, Matt was still employed by NBC).
In the past, Megyn has even gone so far as to change her own look to help her show succeed. “She’s shifted from the glossy lips and shimmery makeup and dramatic eyes to a more monochromatic, natural look,” celebrity makeup artist Shalini Vadhera previously told The Washington Post, adding that Megyn’s overall NBC look is “less glam than before.” We’re so glad that people are finally tuning in to Megyn’s show!
