Michael Strahan “Lost a Little Bit” of His Pinky Finger and Our Hands Hurt Just Thinking About It

Ouch! Michael Strahan revealed on the Wednesday, Aug. 2, episode of Good Morning America that he seriously injured his finger. “I had a little accident. Lost a little bit of my pinky,” the 45-year-old TV personality told fellow cohosts Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos.

While he didn’t divulge exactly how he hurt his finger, Michael did say he was surprised to learn that his accident became the butt of his co-workers’ jokes — but he’s taking it all stride. “A guy before just said, ‘Michael, we pinky swear.’ Or something like that,” he added. “There’s going to be a lot of jokes for a while but I’m OK and glad to be back.”

This isn’t the first time the former NFL player has suffered a finger injury. In February 2016, his pal Lin-Manuel Miranda shared a photo via Twitter, showing that Michael can bend his fingers in all kinds of directions because of the injuries he sustained during his career in football.

“We sat next to Strahan. He is THE BEST. Also, thanks to football, his fingers do THIS,” Lin-Manuel, 37, captioned a pic of Michael’s mangled hand. The Live with Kelly alum replied: “Pretty!”

Michael’s pinky problem comes just weeks after he shared his thoughts about Ryan Seacrest replacing him on Live. “He’s doing great. He’s doing great,” he told E! News on July 13. “I’m happy for him and good luck to the show.”

In a previous interview, the retired athlete said that his abrupt exit from Live marked the beginning of the end of his friendship with Kelly Ripa. “At one point I think we were friends. I don’t know what happened at the end,” Michael — who left Live in May 2016 to join GMA — said. “I learned a lot from her, though.”
