The home renovation star said her relationship with Tad as well as her mom, Karen E. Laine, was “challenging.”

“My mom and I aren’t in a great place. My brother Tad and I aren’t in a great place. My brother William and I are in a kind of like nonexistent place,” she told podcast listeners. “It’s complicated without even being complicated. We don’t really engage much, and the last engagement wasn’t super positive, and that was maybe a year ago.”

Mina explained that running her home improvement business, Two Chicks and a Hammer, is “really hard.” She called out other members of the Good Bones cast, including Tad, for not having as much responsibility and weight on their shoulders.

“I have all the risk,” she said during a “Mina AF” episode. “So, mom, Austin [Aynes], Tad, Cory [Miller], MJ [Coyle], everyone else is there having fun and they’re getting paid to be there, just regular pay, to have fun. What I think a lot of people don’t think about, don’t understand or choose not to hear is I own the company.”

The mom of two realized Tad was “not a good person for [her] to be around” after a heated text exchange.

“My brother Tad said some really awful stuff to me and I’m sure he would say that I’ve said some awful stuff to him too,” Mina recalled. “But the most recent stuff he said to me, he can’t say it’s not what he said. He can’t say I misunderstood. It’s in text and it’s black and white and that was kind of my final straw there.”

Tad took to Instagram to share a video about “releasing negative feelings.”

“We only get so much time to live on this Earth, why spend any amount on it being angry? It’s just not worth it,” the general contractor wrote in the caption of the clip.

One fan left a comment on Tad’s Instagram post, questioning whether or not he actually did say “horrible things” to Mina via text.

“If optimism is so easy, then why is Mina saying you said horrible things to her that you can’t say you didn’t say because she has it in black and white in a text?” the person wrote. “You’re fooling no one here, Tad!!!!”

The comment prompted a response from Tad, writing, “It’s so not easy to be optimistic,” adding, “There’s so many reasons one could find not to be. No one here is claiming perfection here. I have my woes and struggles too!”

The series finale of Good Bones aired on television. During the episode, viewers saw Tad get engaged to Anna Spiars as they moved into their newly renovated home.

Despite keeping a distance from his sister, Tad took to Instagram to thank her for giving him the opportunity to work on Good Bones for eight seasons.

“To all the fans, I feel like you all watched me grow up, and there’s something special about that,” he captioned a series of behind-the-scenes photos. “To all those people who helped build me up and taught me what I know — Lenny, Terry, Brad, Cory, Mina, Adam, Zack and so many others, thank you. And most thanks to Mina and Karen, none of this would have been possible for any of us without you two.”
