Nicole Kidman Is Unrecognizable In The Trailer For Her New Film, ‘Destroyer’

Between Big Little Lies and, now, Destroyer, it’s pretty obvious that at this stage of her career, Nicole Kidman is looking to shake things up. And from what we can see in the new Destroyer trailer, she’s got no problem putting herself through the sort of physical transformation that someone like Charlize Theron frequently does. In fact, you sort of have to strain to be able to tell that this is Nicole at all, which is a perfect demonstration of her dedication to the film and her part. See Nicole’s transformation in the Destroyer trailer below!

As she revealed in an interview with The Wrap, changing her look required Nicole, 51, to wear prosthetics that actually altered her face and bone structure, though her hope is that people won’t get too hung up on her physical appearance. “As an actor,” she says, “I’m so protective of my characters, so it hurts my feelings if the nose is about that performance. If it’s brought down to the physical, then I didn’t do my job properly.”

She added to E! News, “For me, I don’t place a lot of emphasis on [whether I’m glamorous or not]. I’m just, like, ‘Can I feel it? Is it real? Am I going to be able to work through this — in this?’ That’s all I care about. I’ll leave all the rest to everybody else. I rarely look in the mirror with that. Otherwise, it’s all becoming too exterior, and I’ve got to move from a place inside.”

Annapurna Pictures, the studio behind Destroyer, notes that the film “follows the moral and existential odyssey of LAPD detective Erin Bell, who, as a young cop, was placed undercover with a gang in the California desert with tragic results. When the leader of that gang re-emerges many years later, she must work her way back through the remaining members and into her own history with them to finally reckon with the demons that destroyed her past.”

The cast of Destroyer also includes Bradley Whitford, Tatiana Maslany, Sebastian Shaw (Bucky from the Marvel films), Toby Kebbell, Scott McNairy, and Beau Knapp. It’s directed by Karyn Kusama, who had previously directed Jennifer’s Body and The Invitation. It will be released in NYC and LA on Dec. 25 and expand to more theatres beginning in January 2019.
