Prince Harry Reveals If He Plans on Leaving the U.S. With Meghan Markle and Their Kids

Prince Harry opened up about his private life in America and his hopes for the future in a rare comment. The Invictus Games founder attended the New York Times DealBook Summit on Wednesday, December 4, where he was asked if he planned to keep living in the U.S. with his wife and kids.

“I very much enjoy living here and bringing up my kids here,” he said at the event, making it clear that he has no plans of leaving the U.S. any time soon. “It’s a part of my life that I never thought that I was gonna live.”

Harry, 40, moved to the U.S. with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their son, Archie, after taking a step back from the royal family in 2020. They welcomed their daughter, Lilibet, in 2021 and have continued living in the States ever since.

Harry explained that his late mother, Princess Diana, would be proud to see him happy in America with his family of four.

“I feel as though it’s the life that my mom wanted for me,” the Duke of Sussex said

“To be able to do the things I’m able to do with my kids that I undoubtedly wouldn’t be able to do in the U.K., it’s huge,” Harry shared. “I’m hugely grateful for that.”

The family of four lives in a stunning home in California’s Montecito neighborhood. Their sprawling residence is gorgeous, with nine bedrooms and 16 bathrooms and a backyard that’s perfect for entertaining and hosting. The couple has shared rare glimpses inside of their estate over the years in photos and videos.

Harry’s comments about living in the U.S. came a couple of months after a source told Closer that he was looking to repair his relationships with his father, King Charles III, and his brother, Prince William.

“He’s very confident that he and his father will be in a better place in the coming year,” the insider said in September. “He and William will always have their issues, and Harry’s made mistakes, but he loves his brother dearly.”

It’s a sentiment that the Spare author has echoed before. “Time heals all things, hopefully,” Harry once said in 2021 in reference to the rift between him and his brother.

The source went on to say that amid all of the noise surrounding his relationships with his family, Harry is happy with his life in California as a devoted husband and father of two.

“It was very difficult to leave England, but Harry put his wife and family first,” the source said. “It’s made his relationship with Meghan so much stronger, and they’re still very much in love.”

“The greatest lesson he’s learned is to follow your heart,” the source continued. “Harry has made some missteps, but he’s stayed true to trying to do the right thing.”

During an appearance on Today in April 2022, Harry opened up about living in America and feeling at home.

“You know, home — home for me, now, is, you know, for the time being, in the States,” he said during the interview with Hoda Kotb. “We’ve been welcomed with open arms.”

He went on to say that he and Meghan, 43, and the kids “got such a great community up in Santa Barbara.”
