Prince William Says He Wants Prince Charles To Spend More Time With His Kids

He’s trying to balance it all! Prince Charles is one busy man. Ahead of his 70th birthday, the future king still has a lot going on between public appearances, long trips, and more. That said, his sons say he’s sadly finding less time to spend with his three grandchildren.

“I would like him to have more time with the children,” Prince William, 36, says in the new BBC One documentary, Prince, Son & Heir: Charles at 70, which airs on Nov. 8. “Having more time with him at home would be lovely, and being able to, you know, play around with the grandchildren. When he’s there, he’s brilliant, but we need him there as much as possible.”

Charles is a grandfather to William and Kate Middleton’s kids, Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 3, and Prince Louis, 5 months. He will soon be welcoming a fourth grandchild, as his younger son, Prince Harry, and his wife, Meghan Markle, are expecting their first child in the spring.

Harry, 34, agrees with his big brother that Charles “does need to slow down.” He says in the documentary, “This is a man who has dinner ridiculously late at night, and then goes to his desk later that night and will fall asleep on his notes to the point where he’ll wake up with a piece of paper stuck to his face. The man never stops. When we were kids, there were bags and bags and bags of work that the office just sent to him. We could barely even get to his desk to say goodnight to him.” Poor Charles…

But when Charles does find time for the little ones, his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, says he’s great with kids, specifically her four grandchildren from a previous marriage. “He reads Harry Potter and he can do all the different voices and I think children really appreciate that,” Camilla says of Charles in the documentary. “He will get down on his knees and crawl about with them for hours, you know, making funny noises and laughing, and my grandchildren adore him, absolutely adore him.” We wish he was our grandpa!
